The Journey

The night sky was clear. The stars and moon were reflecting their pale light into the, making the dark silhouette of the ship clearly visible. The ship which they would soon be boarding. The bare masts which protruded towards the sky gave the ship a rather ghastly appearance, like it was some enormous, wooden skeleton.. fruitlessly trying to for the the stars with its skeletal arms. Only quiet noises could be heard from the deck, as the sailors who were on duty were preparing it for departure. There had to be something shady about the ship, or else the captain would not certainly choose to depart at such hours. Maybe they were smuggling something on the side? He didn't really care.. as long as they would be transported to the mainland.
Lucian's gaze sank down at his shoes again, which he could barely see shuffling on the creaky boards. He stood at the pier, not too far away from the large ship. It was clear that he was waiting for something.. or someone, with nearly all of his earthly posessions being stuffed inside that large backpack next to his feet. His hooded head swayed from side to side as he tried to prevent himself from giving in to the urge of closing his eyes and laying down on the wooden boards.
What would the mistress think, if she would catch him like that?

Ashayen placed her hands on the hips and looked down at her full backpack with some pursed lips. "Hrm, hopefully i have everything i need for the journey now." she said with a rather quiet and thoughtful voice and glanced around the empty room of the shop. She knew that she was already too late but her last hope was that she would meet her husband again and so she strolled around and through the town...but it was beyond all hope. Her grey-blue eyes stared at the door for a while, disappointed and she bent down to swing the strap of the bag over her shoulder, gasping in surprise about the heavy weight.
She tried to march as fast as she could with the edges of the black open robe which covered her body playing with the wind and the heels of her boots producing a thud with every step. The glass vial on the black ribbon around her slender neck swayed from side to side, almost dancing in excited manner as she approached the harbor. She saw the big masts of the ship already from the distance and became slowly nervous by the fact that the ship was already there and so she tried to increase the speed of her steps.
A relieved gasp escaped her gently curved lips as she noticed the dark figure and quickly moved over to him. The drops of sweat on her pale forehead glistened in the moonlight and with the bandage around her right hand she wiped them away, clearing her throat as she stood right in front of him. "Be greeted, Lucian. I'm sorry for being too late but i hope you are ready to go aboard immediately?"

He startled her voice broke the silence, straightening his back and turning his hooded figure towards the source of the voice. He bowed his hooded head "Do not worry about it, mistress.. the ship is still there" his pale lips curved to a light smirk as he continued "and yes, I am ready.." He gestured at the backpack on his feet. The tiredness seemed to slowly disappear from his mind as he could enjoy her interesting presence. His hand stroked instinctively over his belt and pockets, making sure he had everything with him, before giving a light nod to himself.
The hooded head turned towards the ship again, with his brown eyes looking at the ladders which rested against the bulwark of the ship. He reached down to pick up the heavy backpack, nodding with the head towards the ladder. "We should climb aboard nonetheless, mistress.. as the crew is getting louder and louder. I think they will lift the anchor soon.." His hooded head turned towards her, and it seemed as if he was waiting for her response.

Brushing a rebellious strand of her thick, pitchblack hair out of her face she followed his gaze towards the ladders and nodded the head, slowly. Without giving any response she walked past him whilst adjusting the heavy backpack dangling over one of her shoulders. Standing in front of the ladders and one hand already clenched around a wodden rung she turned her head to look at him then into the darkness behind him with misty eyes. She sighed quietly and pursed her lips before she began to climb up the ladder, ocassionally gasping under the heavy weight of her bag. She smiled briefly to herself when reaching the last rung and swung one leg after the other on the wodden floor of the ship. Finally standing she arched her back, muttering something inaudible when rubbing over the aching hands. She let the backpack drop down on the floor and looked then down to the dark figure, asking teasingly "Will you come up here as well now, or not?"

A dark figure stands in the distance.. staring at the ship and those boarding it. He lets out a quiet sigh and grimaces, brushing over the front of his expensive coat. He keeps on standing there, too far to be identified, but close enough to make his presence noticeable for someone who would pay attention when looking at the shore.

His hooded head turned to follow her as she silently walked past him, his hidden lips curving to an amused smirk as she began to climb up the ladder. He glanced behind him, spotting the dark figure but not paying much attention to him, instead focusing on her teasing words. He walked to the ladder, taking a hold of the worn wood with his hands as he slowly begun to climb up. The backpack felt heavier with each step, but soon the cloaked figure threw his leg over the bulwark and landed on the creaky, thick deckboards of the ship. He wrinkled his nose as the stench of tar and seawater coming from the deck and sides reached his nose, widening his pale brown eyes as he made a quick glance around the ship. The deck was covered with piles of hemp-ropes and crates of various kinds, which had apparently been placed there instead of the cargo bay with quick unloading in mind. He was certain that they contained something which the Captain would rather not write down in the ship consignment log. He turned to the woman with a smirk on his pale lips, muttering "Please, do not be so impatient, mistress..."

Her curious gleaming eyes travelled about the deck while she was waiting for him to climb up the ladder. For a moment she furrowed the brows when inspecting everything with a closer look, slowly folding the arms beneath her breasts as she could feel the uneasy feeling inside her. She turned her head around, seemingly relieved as Lucian was finally standing next to her on the deck of the ship and she smiled briefly up to him, saying "I'm not but today i can't help it.". She started to look around again and shuddered at the sight, muttering in a hesitant and quiet manner "We should...look around for the captain...".
