Concussion Weapons

Concussion Weapons
Firstly, very little people use concussion weapons; not to mention the choice of armaments is extremely limited.
For example at a particular (smithing) skill level, for people using slashing weapons, I can create an immense number of different swords, some of which are never used (everyone seems to prefer serinjah varients or magical stuff) ... and if that's not enough, there are a large number of axes as well. Even for something as little used as daggers, there are a large number of poisoned/unpoisoned daggers.
How many concussion weapons can I make? One.
How many are there ingame? Mace, Battlestaff, Morning star (never seen one) and warhammers.
So the first suggestion is: Add a few more concussion weapons, or make some of them easier to craft. Are morningstars even IN the game?
From what I've heard, there used to be more weapons before, so there should be graphics for them.
Suggestion #2-
Nobody uses shields either (except for pging). Probably a mixture of them being horrible to craft (let me get out my dye) and the fact that dual weapons do the job faster.
So why not allow shields to make attacks "Shield Bash" which uses the concussion weapons skill, but doesn't increase the skill. This makes shields a tad more useful, and also prevents a certain kind of pging
Discuss.

Except for the "add more items to the game" and "shield bash"-parts: In work. Will take a lot of time, though.
List of current concussion weapons:
stirring rod
bough
branch
hammer
club
mace
morning star
morning star
fishing rod
shovel
flail
skull staff
cleric's staff
simple mage's staff
mage's staff
elven mage's staff
ornate mage's staff
battle staff
war hammer
Note: There are two morning stars, dropped e.g. by ogres.

From that list, the only weapons which actually ARE weapons are the ones I mentioned above + skull staff and club.

I've to correct myself, stirring rod and bough are currently no concussion weapons, but they will become that. One day.
Can you be a bit more specific what concussion weapons you'd add? Some ideas of mine:
-Cudgel
-Another mace (more slim, could be called cleric's mace)
-A real morning star (our morning stars are flails! - looks like a spiked club)
-dwarven hammer (one handed)
-thunder mace (magical)
-thunder hammer (magical, as dwarven hammer)

I just list "bruise-type" weapons from the Pen&Paper RPG "GURPS" with their simplified damage indicators:
- Small mace [+2; a bit slow]
- mace [+3; a bit slow]
- Blackjack ("Todschläger") [+0; no parrying]
- Morning star [+2; a bit slow, but very hard to parry]
- Flail [+4; two handed, a bit slow, but greater range]
- Club [+0]
- Battle staff [+2; two handed, but good for parrying and with greater range]
- War hammer [+4; two handed and a bit slow, but with greater range]
So there are not so much concussion weapons, but you could make dozens of variants.

@Esty: You can fight with sticks. I've seen it done loads.
@Adrian: Everyone uses shields; sword+shield is standard nowadays.

this one?
Can be pretty useful, if used in the right way.

Every weapon pales i comparison to the number and range of strength that slashing weapons have.
Cuncussion weapons just happen to be the worst since all of those are in the game and makeable tools and weapons and they still don't compare to there slashing counter parts.
Anyway one tiny suggestion
Can we turn clubs into a makeable item as well? If i recall correctly you sort of 'found' clubs in the past.

Don't knock concussion before you've tried it

Even though my character doesn't have the best stats for concussion I believe, he can still use it rather effectively even at a low/mid level. It's more of a slower, more damaging type of weapon rather than a fast mid-damage weapon like a sword. Sure, if you use bad concussion weapons, you get bad results, just like with swords. Also, the fact that you can't "find" (e.g. monster drops, instead of having them made) good concussion weapons like you can with swords of various types.

uuh all Character Athian has every used in cuncussion weapon Dom so i know plenty of what i'm talking about thanks. much better then you do even
Also no matter there effectiveness they'll always be limited. there are two few of them firstly, they lack any magical weapon types (another sad thing)
when you compare the range of slashing weapons by any other weapon type, they sorely outnumber them at least 3 to 1

A few more ideas for weapons:
Spiked Gauntlets - another Gauntlet with spikes which could give 'concussion' damage. Good for wanna-be Monks. ((Maybe even add it to Wrestling instead, but dunno if it uses 'weapons'))
Spiked Boots - see 'Spiked Gauntlets'
Spiked Club - like the club but with metal spikes - made with Naldor Logs and pins?
It would be nice if Tailor's made some weapons too.
Bullwhip - Leather worked into a whip. Long range like 3 would be nice for this.
Cat of Nine Tails - A leather 'Flail' with pins inserted within. Very nasty on skin!
also, how about a 'concussion' spell for mages such as "Ghost Fist", or "Thundershock" which emit a concussion sound 'Blast' toward the enemy? The Magic Hammers Esty suggested could also have this effect.
It would be cool for Bards too, like those two musicians in "Kung Fu Hustle", hehe I love that movie!

@Athian: My apologies. You must be an expert on concussion to be able to work out that there are more swords than concussion weapons.
On another note, I think that if all the weapons that have been proposed here are added:
-Cudgel
-Clerics mace
-A real morning star (our morning stars are flails! - looks like a spiked club)
-dwarven hammer (one handed)
-thunder mace (magical)
-thunder hammer (magical, as dwarven hammer)
-Spiked Club
-Bullwhip
-Cat O' Nine Tales
That that would be enough concussion weapons to be getting along with, especially since, as with swords, many of them would remain unused.

I sure am, glad you recognized it.
I don't think it's much about the weapons so much as the scripting and graphic's for these weapons that really keeps anything from being introduced. If you've ever seen the item list (maybe some of you have) of things ig. i believe at least every other weapon type has a few rare weapons that aren't makabale ig (examples are as easy to find as a YR map). Concussion weapons have always been the only weapon that lacked not only magical weapons but even rare unmakable weapons.
For as many swords that Aren't used ig there are still some that have yet to be truely placed ig (how many drow bi-handers do we have)
I like all the idea's above, single handed hammers especially have always struck me as a good idea. Or perhaps even something so simple as changing some of the bigger weapons into concussion types, or even perhaps duel type weapons, meaning they would work with equal effectiveness (not double effectiveness though) using either slashing or concussion.

Tonfas (1h) would be cool. High defense, fast, moderate damage.
Metal staff (2h). Slower, more damage.
Big ol bat (2h) extreme damage, extremely slow
Lashing staff (reaches 2 spaces) Fast, moderate damage
Three section staff (also reaches 2 spaces) faster, lower damage
Wolf tooth club (1h or 2h)
Monk Spade (2H) Could possibly be slashing AND conc.
I really like the whip ideas as well.
And why not play off weapons we already have? Big metal clubs, different kinds of hammers, a double morning star, more types of staff.

I don't think anyone bothered calculating "DPS" when scripting the weapon damages.

I think thats a big problem with conc weapons. Supposed to be slower powerful less accuracy needed weapons, but are instead slower mid power less accurate weapons.
DPS = damage per second

on Illapedia i saw, that serinjah-swords are very efficient weapons.
maybe a reason for the big number of persons who use it.
maybe its better to clear some of this datas. The Same with armors and helmets, and so on.
Altough the datas arn't right...
greetings

Yeah. But now somebody bothers

. *gets cracking*
Serinjahs are as good as they are due to a typo. Nothing more, nothing less.

A shield and mace is sadly the only combination worth using for concussion weapons. With the right stats one could be extremely dangerous using a elven mage or a battle staff.
As far as swords go, I would only consider using three different ones if I could only pick a few to always use.

What about the maul? True, it's both slashing and bludgeoning, but you could make it bludgeoning.

5th on the list.
These days though it seems to be more for splitting wood.
Just a suggestion.

*votes for whips to be included*
Have them as extremely fast slashing weapons which do very little damage.

If you come to my chamber of secrets and yank on my sword of power I'll show you some magical blunt weaponry. Err, that was weird.
I know we had magical staffs at one point in Illarion.
