I have found that there are many items in illarion that do not seem to have a use. i am mainly reffering to the wine barrel i was trying to get wine into a goblet but it didn't work so if it serves some purpose please tell me

Is it the same with beer? This yellow potion does nothing useful, but taking
half of your energy. Or has it some other use?  ok its a popular drink with the players
but has it been created simply for that purpose?

These "useless" objects are in the game for one purpose: Roleplaying, as Turnupto said.  The "beer" can be useful for an actual purpose, but mainly used as beer or ale at the tavern.  Just like most of the potions which are used as wine and such.

but wouldn't it be better to use the wine barrel things to make wine and put them in goblets instead of drinking the yellow potion/beer which drains half of your hp? and if you had to use potions wouldn't a food potion would be a better option.

Yes, but food potions already have a use.

And making the goblets get filled and such; the programmers have more important things to do than that.  And that would just be a solution to the wine, not other drinks.  It is better the way it is, since it is already done and doesn't require any more time to develop.
