Fruit Trees

Currently since its winter, food will be scarce, especially food obtained from trees.
This is represented IG by:
1) Only 1 fruit / tree, as opposed to the usual amount
2) Not all trees have fruit on them
Now, this is a problem IMHO because apples and other fruit increase a pitiful amount, so the 1 fruit/ tree means you need to look for a large number of fruit bearing trees before you get enough for a meal.
I know this is meant to add pressure for peopel to buy from cooks (or fish for food or something), however some of us prefer using apples when adventuring because they're light and relativly more filling.
So I just ask that either
1) All trees have 1 fruit on them
2) Some trees have as much fruit as usual on them.
It still retains a degree of realism, and keeps the game fun.
Discuss.

Collect fruit over the summer and stock them for the winter.
People lived well this way before supermarkets and cooling houses were invented.

I do that, but what about new players, or players who aren't used to the whole winter thing?

You mean players who didn't play for a year, like me?
Winter is winter. it's unfortunate for new players who start now that they can't collect many fruit, but that's the way it is in winter.
Else we could remove it altogether so nobody has a disadvantage for joining now.
And when we're on it, some more examples:
What about players who unfortunately start playing in the middle of a dragon attack and don't know what's going on around them? Let's get rid of such quests...
What about players who are unlucky to start in Mas? Let's get rid of a sophisticated calender...

I'm not saying remove the effect, just tone it down a bit.
At least if you have 11 apple trees, you might be able to get a meal, as opposed to finding 1 apple... if you're lucky...

Whenever you log in the first time there can be a dis- / advantage.

As a counter-proposal:
An NPC trader that sells some basic food supplies over the winter.
For those who cannot find a player character ingame that has enough food stocked.

or put more food in the starter package in winter.
i like the actual system.

It would be nice if just a little more leeway somehow on the fruit was added for the winter, either that or have more trolls bane depots.

I like the current system.
Winter is supposed to be a hard time. Perhaps characters could come together and help each other in this meagre season.

My opinion as well. A fruit trader NPC would only serve for times when no player is active to help you.
Increasing the amount of fruit so you can find enough for yourself defies the purpose of the system. The difference shouldn't just be that in winter you can feed yourself while in summer you can get rich by selling insane amounts of fruit to bakers.
Winter was very hard for medieval people, and those who couldn't stock enough food would starve if they didn't help each other.
Edit: Spelling.

Hello!
Well, I don't consider it realistic to eat a lot of fruits to satisfy ones hunger, yet everyone seems to do it in Illarion. You can eat ham in winter if you are in need of food and cannot afford to buy it. But since most players seem to join a community very quickly it should be easy enough to get food from it if the community took care in advance of the winter. Usually a tree would have no fruits in winter so the current situation is already a trade-off.
But I would like to propose the following two changes:
1. I think in order to pick fruits you have to climb (in parts) a tree to get to the fruits, at least if you intent to pick the maximum of fruits availabe on the tree. So one should not be able to pick a lot of fruits when wearing armour as it would hinder the climbing.
2. Maybe one could use a portable ladder to get more fruits. A ladder could be made by carpenters. This would even be helpful for people wearing armour.
With kind regards

@ Magdha
Good ideas I think.
Now it's up to our devs to have a look if that's realizable.

One of the best ways.

Good point. A true alternative instead of simply turning down a proposal, way to go. I am in favour of this even though I think the NPC should sell food the whole year. We have NPCs that sell food, but when I have to pay 1 sp, 20 cp for a simple soup while a flame helmet costs 3 sp, well, something is not right...

In fact the system currently runs not even slightly as intended. But due the lag of server support there is no other way possible.
Normally there should be no fruits at all in winter. But I can't controll the rotting of the items that good.
Anyway the trees you took fruits from in winter, will not carry any fruits for the rest of the winter.
About your idea Magda: At least the idea with the armor is easily possible.

This will make stuff further irritating for fighters...
Excuse me while I pick some apples, please protect me while I unstrap my armor and take off all my weapons so I can stop feeling hungry. Make sure to look away...

Nods laughing then whispers "even worse with paper dolls...no slots for an actual shirt under the armor"
If you want to get realistic (which IMO doesn't necessarily need to in the game)... there would be a hunter class.. that could get meat... be it rabbit, bird, deer etc. and cook it on an open fire with a stick etc. not having to find a carpenter for plates/spoon/bucket etc. then sell the meat they didn't eat to these same cooks for copper.

I mostly meant a fruit trader, that would be situated in a public spot (and not hidden somewhere off the streets). This would allow new players to quickly find a place to get food if nothing else was available. Of course the NPC could sell all over the year, the "in winter" extension was mostly because that's where he would be used mostly. The idea was that new players could easily learn that food can be bought somewhere.

Well, since you are not allowed to chop wood or collect honey if wearing armour it would only be consequent to restrict collecting fruits in some way if you wear armour. I'm not saying that you cannot collect fruits at all if wearing armour but it should be limited to fruits on the lower branches which results in less fruits from one tree.

The reason that was made, was to prevent people being tanks all the time. Now if you happen to be in the wilderness looking for food, taking off the armor isn't a very nice thing.
Usually fighters planning to fight don't chop down wood or collect honey, but they might collect fruit beforehand.

Well, they can but will not get as many fruits as one who is able to climb a tree or who uses a ladder to reach higher places on a tree. And I would think that a hard working fighter would prefer some nice meat over fruits but well...

winter time... every new chars get a fishing rod and they eat raw fishes...

I believe people liked to hunt deers or trap rabbits during this time so they could have meat. How about we do that instead of worry over the lacking of fruit on trees. It isn't about making the game realistic, it is about logical explainations verses illogical explainations. It's winter, there is a lacking of fruit. Eat something else.
Edit: Item suggestion: Make it possible to salt meat so fighters can carry something similar to beef jerky. It would be a nice winter alternative to apples.

i think, a fighter, who prepares for wilderness adventure could stock up some rations.
if he is too dumb to think about that, he should be hungry or take off his his armour, to be able to find food.

Uhm... you mean like... smoked ham?

Uh... no. I mean like salted meat. As in salt-curing meat so it preserves it and keeps it from rotting. Sausage is probably a lot closer to salted meat than smoked hams.

Smoking preserves meat as well. That's why it was invented.

I think people are missing my point. I am trying to suggest a winter alternative to apples for ig. Yes smoking also preserves meat; however...
Apples = light
Smoked hams = heavy
therefore
Beef/deer Jerky or Venison = light
Meaning that: One should be able to carry the same amount of salted meat strips as apples when it is winter ig.
