The Giving of Runes

Seeing there is ONLY one place a mage char can give runes without loss of skill in the game, (I assume this is to limit mages from the game) and seeing there appears to be less "organization" of the giving of runes now. Also noting that Illarion, the dev''s and staff have more the once voiced they do NOT want the game to be a "mage" game, in other words, would prefer not every char ig to be a mage, I would like to propose an alternative.

The skill loss from the giving of runes be increased where only one or two runes can be given in a two week period possibly even up to 50%........BUT this skill loss would be only temporary. After two weeks, the char's' skill is again back to normal, at that time, they can choose to give another rune or not. This would limit the amount of runes given using game mechanics.....and would negate the need of a room ig for mage chars to teach. This may ALSO negate the idea of an "elitist" group of chars. After the giving of the rune, most will be fairly weak mages...at least for two weeks. The mage teacher would also have to be VERY sure of their student and ability in order to give out the runes considering the loss of skill they will achieve.

The only disadvantage I see is that some, not wanted the skill loss will quit teaching altogether, however there is already a rule in place that if sufficient time, the teaching rune will be removed.

disclaimer: This would not be a good idea previously with the time and wait for mage teachers, but now with more teachers, this may be very helpful to steer the game in the direction most seem to want.

More ideas are welcomed however. :)

Gonna Agree with Alexrose on this one (for once). I don't like that idea at all. Magic characters aren't just rune factories for other players. Massive skill loss, effectively cripples a character. Imagine for instance 80% skill dropping to 30% skill. meaning for two weeks you have a severly weakened character.
While the game isn't all about skills, for a mage, magic is thier primary tool. Effecting such a massive loss in skill even temporaryily will effect not only the rp of that character but that characters ability to function in the manner they were designed. In that effect no one will want to teach, because if they do things like quests involving monsters, aggressive or defensive actions via RP (those that end in good old engine bashing on either sid eof the line) and bascially any usual behaviors of the character become inaccessible for excessive periods of time.

I say lets just wait and see what happens with thre magic system as it's currently being worked on i believe. We can make suggestions, or advise adjustments once we know what we'll be dealing with.

I can already see (through my perverted evil eye) endless possibilities of mage assassinations by their student during the weekening periods.

I can also see mages trying to avoid it by staying offline for two weeks.

Not a good idea necessarily, imho.

I totally dislike this proposal.

First of all, there is a certain level you need to reach to teach without the room. Even Avalyon didn't have enough Skill to teach a rune without the room. Nalcaryos, who is by far the strongest mage ig (going from skill) can't even teach all runes without the room.

Second: The massive skillloss will either end in thousands of clouded mages every day or in 95% of the teachers quitting to teach.

That we have so many mages now is the result of the constant moaning and whining about how hard it is to become a mage. Due to the NPC-system they wanted to put in (and that none of the mages liked in any way), most of us did a teaching-marathon so that we have around 15 teachers ~ 45 places for students and some finished mages now

The teaching mechanics totally suit the illarionbackround, so there are just fine imho

I beleive something like this would be horrible.

Its already been all said before but the voting question requires me to post :P

Let me log my mage in, teach the students then umm, become a worse mage then my students for TWO WEEKS. So basically once a mage becomes a teacher, he isn't a mage any more, he's just a runegiver.

The actual mechanics do have some reasons.
With changes like that, and you'll end up with either even more new mages than now or screwed chars.
