Superstitions

Sure we all have our little game supersititions, things that really hold no confirmed or not even a logical reasoning, but things we still think will help us do stuff in Illa. Somehow subconsciously, we treat them as lucky, each one of us has their own little traditions of how they think it's best to do things. This thread is to list your little Murphy's laws.

These are my supersitions:

1. When smithing, always smith on the same anvil until item is complete. Don't carry unfinished item to a different anvil. You'll waste less ore and learn faster.

2. To succeed, always hold the hammer in the left hand, crucible in the right hand when smithing.

3. Fighting, hold the shield only in the left hand.

4. Fighting more than one monster, always kill the one to the side first.

5. Walking in the forest searching herbs, carry one sample of the herb you're looking for, you might get a lucky spawn.

6. Fishing, always carry an empty bucket - to put fish in, then your fishing rod won't break.

7. Never plant rare seeds in front of yourself, they will fail more often. Plant them behind your back. Never plant on the very corner of the farm patch.

8. Always keep the bag open in the rightmost panel, not leftmost.

9. Always pick fruit from trees you're chopping first.

10. I never use vertical book shelves, only horizontal ones.

It's always useful to find out about bugs and to do things in a realistic way. The latter mainly, but not only for roleplay reasons. Who knows what our scripters put into their scripts ?

Oh, I don't know. You tell me 8)

I always wear bluestone rings to take less fire damage against dragons.

Hello!

Well, I think most of your superstitions are related to roleplaying.
Konrad Knox wrote: 2. To succeed, always hold the hammer in the left hand, crucible in the right hand when smithing.
Only if you are left hander. A right hander smith would hold the hammer in his right hand and other smithing tools or the workpiece in his left, wouldn't he.
Konrad Knox wrote: 3. Fighting, hold the shield only in the left hand.
Well, if you are right hander the weapon would be held in the right hand, so a shield automatically lands in the left hand.
Konrad Knox wrote: 4. Fighting more than one monster, always kill the one to the side first.
Well, usually it is a bad idea to fight more than one opponent, so I try to avoid it. If fighting more than one enemy I always try to turn so that I have the opponent I'm not currently fighting on the left side where I wear my shield, so that I can block the attacks more easily.
Konrad Knox wrote: 7. Never plant rare seeds in front of yourself, they will fail more often. Plant them behind your back.
Well, I would like to see a change in the planting system so that after sowing by clicking on the seeds the new plants appear behind the char. It doesn't make much sense to me to step onto freshly growing plants.
Konrad Knox wrote: 9. Always pick fruit from trees you're chopping first.
After you have chopped the tree you don't have the chance to pick fruits from it, do you. So this is more like common sense to me.

With kind regards

There used to be more rumours about the power of rings then players back in the old days. In reality, none of the rings had any special powers.

I do that sometimes, but just for the Rp...

Whachoo talkin' 'bout Willis?!

I always used to think you parried better sideways. But now I don't.

Oh, and I think you fish more treasure maps if you are crap at fishing, and there are certain places that are abundant in them.

And I always thought you fought worse (at high levels) just before a swirly.

I've got a few of these...

1. Always put crafting items in the right hand.
2. Shield for me MUST go in the right hand.
3. Never ever set counter on a prime number! Bad things will happen

Actually bad things will happen if set to 1, 23 or 42. So make at least sure to set it to 2 after login.

My God!!!!

Viilarion has the Ultimate Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything!!!!

All Priase Vilarion!!!!

Now what was the ultimate question?

Seriously, Here's a few I go by....

1) Never carry you're good weapon in your right hand.........the weapon in the right hand tends to break easier and more often.

2) Never steal another man's leather....just asking for trouble.

3) Rings do have magical powers. Those that use them assume they work, so they must work. :D

4) Never trust your 'World Map'.....It probably changed with the last map-update anyways.

5) Never be in TrollsBane when there are 30+ people IG. The 'server' may crash.

6) Never assume Nitram is your friend. He's just waiting to use his brand new "Ring of Character Slaying".

I used to think training other weapon styles broke down the effectiveness of your current weapon style.

I later discovered it made me more powerful in my current weapon type however.

42 is the number of XXXXX, aye?

Anyhow:
In a duel, let the other person come to you. ;)
If your friends are dying, run away.

Because Robert Anton Wilson died.... AFAICT the significance of 23 comes from his Illuminati trilogy (fnord)
