npc interaction?

I just starting playing the game and I attempted to attack an npc (I had a good rp reason for it) but my character never actually attacked him.
does anyone know how to interact with/attack npcs.

You can't attack NPCs. You can just speak with them.

some npc give you help when you "help" say
