An Escape Before Dawn

Never had her scar caused problems in their nearly one year relationship, sure she had covered the evidence of its existence, but he had always assumed it was out of habit. But as the night lingered to dawn their conversation was headed in a direction never before seen. Sure the last few weeks had been terrible with constant bickering and fighting but as soon as she said,

Juliana: I have some news for you, I talked to Dain today

Everything change in a matter of moments she was reliving the moments of Dain's resurrection in present, words like: ritual, soul, die, control, and above all hopelessness. Who was this woman before him? She had never been the type of woman to just let things control her or have someone tell her what to do, she was always independent, always determined. But with just one conversation with Dain all that had changed, the true nature of her scar revealed and it struck her to the core.

She stood before him looking as meek and weak as a child, all desire to preserve her life melted away, had he been a catalyst for this breakdown? He continued to press her hard with harsh words trying to bring her around.

Davien: Then you shall descend into darkness as you have once already.
Davien: Obviously you dont have control of yourself.
Davien: Congradulations you are the newest recruit to the Moshran horde

All of his words were futile. Clearly, she had made up her mind about what was going to happen to her. Constantly the thought of just walking away raced through his mind; had she not left him for another man once? Didn't she walk out on him in the graveyard and just recently in the guardhouse?
We willed her to fight with his words and actions, still nothing urged her onward, upward. The situation was deathly clear to him after their long undertone conversation, she would succumb to ritual preformed on her so long ago. If it wasn't for the love he still felt for her, he would have left and never gave a second glance, but something had to be done, someone had to fight.

Davien: You are obviously weak and out of you mind, if you will allow me I would like to take you away to rest and collect your thoughts.

Before daybreak peaked over the horizon they made haste through the deserted town toward Nebaar's lonely shop in the south tower. Moments later they were standing before the ruins of the Eldan Monastery. Surely no one would find them here at least not for a little while, and when they did he could make his stand against the Dark Force that wished to pervert his beloved into a mindless minion. But the fates were cruel as the new day sun crept over the horizon, before he knew it a quiet toed halflingness had just made her way to find the ruins to speak with Siloli about some missing hams as he had just taken residence there. He was in his finest armor, this would look undoubtedly suspicious as Juliana looked and carried herself oddly. Before they had spoken a minute another cruel twist of fate caused the wind to blow just right and reveal the occulate markings on Juliana's forehead. No doubt the halflingness would tell at least one person and all would be lost.

Reassuring the halflingness that all was well she went about her little quest of hams, and he went to check the perimeter and stumbled across an open building with beds just to the east of the Monastery. He quickly went back to Juliana and convinced her easily to go get some rest in one of the nice comfortable beds that were there.

Before too long she drifted to sleep and he was left alone to his own thoughts. He had not made many friends since he came to Gobaith and it looked like he was going to have to face Juliana's pursuers alone if they used their influence to turn her to their side. Before long he found out he was in the House of the Druids and he doubted very much they would want or merit a battle on their grounds but maybe just maybe he could find help..........

((closed RP for now unless you are the halflingness, a Druid, or otherwise visit the house often))

Juliana listens to Dain carefully having not understood the significance of the mark she had on her forehead before, feeling the remembered and actual pain when he touched her forehead as her eyes widened in disbelief. His whispered words revealing the extent of the ritual she had been a part of a very long time ago, when she first came to Gobaith. All she remembered of that time was meeting someone one night, understanding she would be part of something that she was curious about, something larger then she had ever heard of. She would protect them, and they her. The ritual lasted quite awhile and the pain was severe by the time she reached her hand up to her forehead and felt the mark burned into her.

You have no control, you can not run.

These words echoed in her mind as she stared into his eyes, each a different color from the other as the shock slowly formed on her face.
You didn't know what it was about did you?

She shook her head at hearing his calm voice

This will be forever with you now.

Running the words over again in her mind as she slowly walks down the street almost knocking into an elf on her way, Juliana suddenly looks up and sees Davien as relief washes over her, whispering softly to him

I need to talk to you, something I found out about today.

After telling her story and hearing his cruel words, flinching at some, sadly nodding at others she pulls off her armor handing him her sword.

Is this what you want Davien? This happened before you came to Gobiath. There is nothing I can do about it.

Continuing to whisper hurriedly back and forth, occasionally looking up into his eyes and seeing the sincerity there but also the deep caring reflected from them she starts to realize the anguish she could cause him yet again. With a long pause ordering her thoughts she nods to herself coming to a decision as she manages to get the words out quickly without her voice breaking and only a small dampness to her green eyes.

You may be better off if I wasn't around, there is nothing I can do about it now. This will be part of my life.

Laying in one of the beds at the Druid house having agreed to go with him, she watched him standing near the window as he looked out into the night guarding her. Juliana closed her eyes as her jumbled thoughts roamed. Should she have even agreed to go with him, yet it lengthened the time they would be together before they had to part for good? What if he got no help, what if he was hurt? Whispering in the dark of the night, she turns on her side as she very softly whispers

You won't fight alone.

With eyes closing fast, she quickly sleeps and dreams.

She paced slow and calm from the forest through the house and hesitates suddenly as she see the door open. She was sure she had locked the house before.

Maybe another Druid is in then so she thought.

Anyway she was mistrustful enough, entering the house with careful steps and closing the door behind her very quiet. Climbing up the ladder she stood in the sleeping room, arches her brows as she seen a woman sleeping in one bed and a man stand in front of them...

With a slight bow and a lowered voice she ask

Be greeted in the House of Druids. Who are you and need the Woman any help ?

The day lingered on as he guarded the entrance room of the Druid House keeping each door in succession closed hoping that if her pursuers did come, closed doors made him feel slightly at ease. The morning was beautiful and the beginnings of spring brought the fragrance of wild flowers before he knew what he was doing he opened the front door and was standing a couple of feet from the it. Almost instantly as if she knew his presence had left the building, the thought he heard her shout. Immediately he spins back toward the ajar door his elaborate blue garments criss-crossing around his body lashed out with his sudden change of direction. The jostling of his armor and weapons can be heard faintly in the mere moments it takes him to trust open each door leading to Juliana. As he reaches the top floor he can help remembering leaving every door behind him open, standing there made him feel vulnerable somehow but he needed to make sure Juliana was alright. Turning back to her he a thought cross his mind,

Are you hearing things? Has she even stirred?

He watches her assessing her every movement looking for any sign of distress, when suddenly his keen ears again give warning to something, but this time not from Juliana but another presence down stairs. The sound is soft and subtle nothing that sounds obtrusive, but immediately his well trained hand moves to his shoulder where his sheathed sword rests on his back and the other one ready to grab his shield just in case. One thought repeats itself over and over in his head, Let be a Druid, let it be a Druid, let it be a Druid. He watches the top of the stairs with an unbreakable gaze determining whether it is a friend or foe. As soon as the soft features of a woman's head can be seen all signs of aggressiveness are relinquished. As she enters the room he immediately gives a customary elven bow, he is wearing a hodge-podge of blue garments that criss-cross around his armored body, can see glimpses of elven made armor under it, with a blue shield on his back under it is a sword. Atop his head is a flame helmet and a dark blue collection of cloth covers his mouth and wraps around his neck shadowing his eyes.

Immediately he answers her question desperate for help of any kind and removes his flame helmet revealing emerald green eyes and jet black hair that is tucked into the dark blue garment wrapped around his neck and mouth.

My..... name ...is.... Davien...........this is....

Quickly pulls down the garments covering his mouth and repeats himself.

My name is Davien and this is Juliana, forgive our intrusion, but I fear she is in the most desperate state that a person can be in.

Juliana dreams of the first time she stepped foot on Gobaith. She had revenge in her heart at the time. Ever since she was a girl of five, her only thought was revenge for those who came to her village, killing her family and friends. Those that placed the scar on her face with a jagged knife while teasing the petrified girl. Her fright at the time was so great, she never saw those that came later. The ones that fought off the invaders as she ran with the loosening of the hands holding her and never stopped running.

Years later after many assignments from Kings and Nobles using her increased fighting skills with whoever would hire her, and after much subterfuge, she finally had the training and knowledge to undertake her task. With no family, there was no one to say farewell to as she stepped on the ship to set sail. Never looking behind her, she quietly watched for the land she knew held those that long ago had come to her village.

Juliana grins briefly in her sleep as the dream centers on the people she met when first on the land. Rory, Dain, "Alexander", Retlak, Fooser, and later Avalyon. Only Rory, Dain, Alexander, and Retlak knew why she was on Gobaith. She had tried to join everything she could at the time in order to find those that still haunted her nightmares remembering only two faces, the man holding the knife and the one holding her, but hoped to find others through them.

Briefly stirring restlessly, a frown crossing her face of that fateful night Rory found out more of her story and whispering to her of his part in it. He was a page with the Knights that had come, though too late, to help her village. They had fought all they could and tried to chase down those that ran. He asked if she was that little girl with the pale blonde hair he saw running away into the forest, the one they were unable to find in the dark and the rain. She still has the piece of fabric he gave her which they found on a tree obviously torn from a dress as someone ran by, she knew that fabric, it was from her dress... the final proof in his story. Upon learning the man with the knife and the one holding her had been killed, her entire purpose for being on Gobaith faltered to a stand still and she was left with a calm satisfaction that her family was now at peace, but also an emptiness, now she had no purpose, nothing to train for, nothing she needed to join, her life and choices were open again. Gradually dropping out of things she had joined, not even knowing what some were, she took Dain's advice and moved on with her new life here on Gobaith.

Hearing a brief whisper in her sleep, but nothing registering in her mind, her dreaming abruptly stops and she settles into a deeper, much needed sleep.

Yridia looks over the man, named Davian, remains silent for the moment.
With soft and quiet steps she approaches the bed with the sleeping woman. Her gracefull small hand touches barely Julianas forhead, withdrawing her hand immediatley with a short, nearly inaudible, gasp from her.

She motions thereafter to Davian to follow her outside to the roof garden.

Leaning on the hedge, glancing very thoughtful over the near shore, she clears her throat and rise her voice.

I am Yridia Anar, the leader from the druids, Davian. First.. this is a house of peace and freedom Davian. I beg you to withdraw this huge armor and weapons. Second.. tell me exactly what is with Juliana. I have felt ....some things i don't like to feel

She turns fully back to him, staring in his face serioulsy. Her dark eyes with the little golden splinters seeming to dance and a warm, caring expression rest on her face.

Giving a second glance back toward Juliana, a slow mournful blink comes to his eyes a wetness can be seen if you were close enough and a redness begins to form upon his sclera may be from the lack of sleep or the sadness that is surmounting for Juliana's condition. He holds his tongue for the moment and follows Yridia Anar to the roof garden. As he reaches the door frame he acknowledges her words of disarming, slowly and in an unaggressive manner takes his shield off first and leans it against the wall, then he removes his shimmering sword that pulsates with an electric wave of lightning constantly and places it next to the shield. Afterward he looks up to meet her gaze with his partially blood-shoot emerald green eyes, at first only giving her a nod. After a brief silence he speaks in a calm undertone typically of a male elf,

I know not the extent of Juliana's ....condition...... I only came here because of the bed. I ask that you speak with her because I hold no answers, I am merely here to protect the one I love.

Voice fades away lingering on the word love followed by a visible but not audible sigh as he walks to the nearest chair and takes a seat with a thoughtful gaze in an wayward direction.

Yridia gives him a light nod in return.

Then let us wait Davian. I will talk to her later, we should let her sleep. But, tell me, what leads you both in trouble ? And you both are in trouble, I can feel this.
Forgive my curiosity, but I have to protect my Druids, so just let me know what you know.

Another brief moment her eyes resting in the elf's face, waiting for his respond.

Juliana suddenly opens her eyes with a hand quickly reaching to the hilt of her sword on hearing another voice besides Davien's. She silently stands from the bed, her blonde hair in disarray as she moves closer to the roof garden, away from the door while she listens for any menace then sighs relaxing her tense body upon hearing none. With an uncharacteristic warmth to her eyes she would usually not show anyone, she listens to Davien's deep low voice talking to the woman as a soft smile forms on her lips. She leans against the wall waiting to see what he will say in answer to the Druid's question, some confusion still in her mind as to the events leading up to today while she reaches up to touch the "burn" as she calls it due to the pain felt when it was placed. Not fully understanding what she had joined that day long ago when first on Gobaith, but having more of an idea now upon hearing bits and pieces of conversation as people talked of the "Temple" she shakes her head as if wondering what anyone could do. She did not like the idea of being controlled in any way, though had met some people from the Temple and liked them. Her main concern was keeping Davien safe, he seemed willing to fight even if alone but she had a feeling that it would be a loosing battle. Wondering what help the Druids could do, and hearing the woman's soft gentle voice express caring and concern, Juliana frowns and looks to the floor as she tries to consider all her options.

She could give in, allow herself to be controlled, let Davien fight her battle, or try to go talk to Avalyon. In her mind, there was only one option she could take now as she quietly moves toward the ladder.

watches her closely with his emerald eyes, more or less debating trusting her enough to give the only information he really knows. With a nod to himself he responds.

All I know is what you see, she has the mark of the occulate on her forehead, and she believes someone is trying to control her.

after a few moments waiting for her response he walks in to the room to check on Juliana, only to find her gone. With a swift movement to his sword and shield he quickly picks them up and turns to the Druid.

Perhaps I should have kept a closer eye....

Juliana sits in the forest playing over the recent events in her mind, could anything have happened different? Possibly a long time ago, when she first arrived, but not now. Sighing she begins the long process of changing her looks. She was familiar with how, having done it for some work on the mainland, but had never seen the necessity here. The hair must still cover the scar, but the color could be changed, there was no armor to worry about having lost it along with her bag at the temple. Grimacing as she slowly moves toward the water's edge and walks in, bloody clothes and all, the severe burns from the fire that engulfed her when Avalyon sent his spell to her sent sharp shivers of pain through her as she washes the dried blood away. Throwing away her charred clothes, letting them float down the river, she looks up once at the clear sky whispering

Davien, I hope one day you will forgive me.

Having last seen him in the same horrible condition she was, it was unclear to her if she would ever see him again as a deep sadness engulfs her settling in her heart to stay. Juliana knew one thing, they had to hide from the Temple members they saw. Avalyon foremost, the one that changed into something she didn't know, also the ones that stood by doing nothing while they were punished. Ones she had previously fought by, considered friends. Dain, the one she trusted the most and had helped to bring back from the dead, Tybalt whom she considered a friend along with Richard and Griv. Then there was the man she hadn't met yet, though she thought she would recognize his face again. Knowing she could forgive the pain of her own wounds, even the burn scars, but what they did to Davien would never be forgiven. He had not foolishly joined them like her, he was only there because she asked him. Avalyon had said he wanted to talk to both, her hope being he would let her go but now, looking back, it was a foolish hope born of desperation. Shivering as she quickly throws on her clothes, names run through her mind as she takes a deep breath before nodding to herself.

Turning she starts to walk then stops as she tilts her head, a puzzled look on her face. Blinking her eyes as if fighting her tears, she whispers to herself

I have no where to go

Aimlessly moving slowly as if still in much pain, the wounds from the burns sending sharp reminders of their presence, Juliana, now known as Breanna, peers at the sign, the place Davien had first brought her for protection. Maybe she would be allowed to stay there awhile
