Gobaith.

The "Gobiath" on the old map was a typo, and it was referred to as "Gobaith" by all the older players despite this during that time. Nice to see they fixed the map :P

(Now with added fighting stickmen!)

We had this discussion already and I am gone to post again that Gobiath sounds cooler versus Gobaith.

You only say this because you joined in that period of time when all the older players who called it Gobaith had left and simply judged it from the map :P

No, I still called it Gobaith. So did all the older players. They had not even had thoughts of leaving yet. But when they screwed up the map, I kept thinking how much cooler Gobiath sounded.

Some old players call it "The island of hope". Gobiath sounds cooler, right. But the name of the island is Gobaith.

why don't we just change it to Gobiath? Everyone seems to like "Gobiath better than Gobaith"

Who cares, Gobiath can be alternative spelling of Gobaith.

Obviously many Germans called it "Gobiath", for the simple fact that one pronounces the "th" like "t". This fits more in the German language than "Gobaith". For most English speaking players "Gobaith" sounds better.

Most certainly not. I am everything but German, and I prefer Gobiath.

No, not everyone. As I said, the people who seem to like "Gobiath" more are the people who joined after the map was screwed up. I like it how finally when I say "Gobaith" people don't go "Ha, don't you mean 'Gobiath' you mispronunciator?!" :P

And plus, the new maps already been made, and it's been made correctly, so logically we can forget about the map screwup and carry on like old times ;)

Therefore I wrote "most English speaking players". It was just my observation, thus I assumed that theory.

I use "Gobiath" (Go-bee-aht) as Old Language (german) name and "Gobaith" (Go-bayth or Go-bah-eeth) as New Language (english) name.

Gobaith may be the correct name, but in german Gobiath sounds better.

But since you don't have to speak it in the game, its absolutly unimportaint if you type the a or the i first.

Eh, no. Because the spelling of words can by seen as the IG pronunciation.

And since the human brain "pronounces" the words even if we only write or read them, it is not absolutely unimportant. But I think there shouldn't be a clear right and wrong. There was a typo on the old map, so some Characters have that map so they call it Gobiath. Good enhancement to the mood to be honest.

I dunno I always have typed it as Gobaith. But in my heart and mind secretly pronounced it Go-buy-uth. Island of hope is super old estralis.

Go-Buy-Ath that's my pronounciation and I'm sticking to it. =]

I used to think of it as "Gob-ee-erth" when I saw the map, but when I got pwnt by Donál and a buncha other people for 'correcting' his spelling of "Gobaith", from then on I kinda started to call it "Gob-ay-th". I actually think it sounds better that way.

The name itself is actually not all that great or creative. It seems like something someone made up in there head in word or something in a few seconds and decided to go with it.

Gobaith is welsh for "hope". See the relation? Island of Hope <-> Gobaith.
