I recently started the game..Infact I started yesterday. After stumbling around begining to get the basics of movements I decide it is time to learn how to do what my charecter was made to do. Craft. Some one told me I needed wood to craft. Well, I finallly get a hatchet thanks to a nice person who sold it to me. Then I try to get wood. I cut down a tree, but now I don't have any wood. I am also not sure how much wood I need, or what to make with the wood, but I was just told to get wood. Can some one please help/direct me as to the next step or what I am doing wrong? This is all rather difficult for me to learn alone...

when the tree fell, and lies down on the earth, use your hatchet with the lying tree.
later you will need a saw, to make boards from your wood.
dont throw away the twigs, some trees will give you. they have their use as well.

My first hint: Ask a lumberjack ingame for help
My second one: If you've cut a tree, what would you normally do to get the bole into pieces?

Ok, but how do I do that? I use with the tree and then use the hatchet, and nothing happens, then I do it the other way and nothing happens...
Never mind, I just got it. I tried asking a lumberjack, but I can't find any the one I found last night wasn't on...thanks though.

P.s. Its ok, I really didn't mind, it was more of the fact that I was becoming frustrated cause I could not figure out how to cut down a tree.

You don't have to use the tree, use your tool kit.

When you cut a tree, you have to use you hatchet again when standing infront of the log. Sometimes the upper end, sometimes the lower end, there is a small glitch with this.

You can make boards out of the logs, you need a saw for this. The best thing to learn a craft is to find somebody who knows how to do it and explains it to your character ingame.

There are many other crafts, like blacksmithing, gem grinding, mining, glass blowing, ... The hardest step is to get the necessary tools, just ask around, many players sell them. And when you ask around and learn from a craftmaster, you get contacts with other characters and interact with them, that's what this game is all about.

I spent a good part of the day getting a hatchet today, and when I logged out, it vanished.

Grrr.

Not to change the topic or anything, but I noticed that I lose a great many tools. I had attributed it to my own absent-mindedness, but now I'm wondering if others are having the same problem.
