often while playing I'll recieve messages such as "you can't concentrate on learning" or "you urgently need to rest to be mentally fit again" and a few others that I can't recall at the moment, what do this messages mean and how can I stop them?

"you can't concentrate on learning is called a 'skill cap' and means that you will soon not be able to gain skill from what you are doing (about 3-4 actions after that message).

"You urgently need to rest to be mentally fit" means that you are not learning anything anymore and all your actions will be wasted (Learning that is) until you rest a while. I suggest you RP more and powergame less. :)

That was unnecessary, Scott!

New chars easily run into the skill-cap, when working on a new skill.
10. Powergaming

Carrying out an action that does not fit your character's role repeatedly and for an extended time just to raise skills is called Powergaming, and is forbidden. Examples are to train with other characters without a roleplaying background or always hanging around spawn points. A worse case is when the player is away from his computer ("away from keyboard", AFK), raising his skills while doing something else like doing the laundry.
And according to the rules' definition of powergaming, you are wrong too.
If he trains his profession, he has a RP cause to do so.

Yes we all know that's the stupidest rule ever because anyone can powergame and say "omg li3k my char wud do that lololol" or whatever.

Anyway:

As far as I'm aware, the first one does not cap you; it just prepares you for a cap, maybe makes your learning slower or something. The cap is when you urgently need to rest.

To make the cap go away, log out for 4 hours and then log back in or stay logged in for 1 hour and go and rp or something and your cap will be gone.

They never are!

The better way:
Stay ingame for some roleplay. You will be refreshed faster and rp is what our game was made for.

As far as I know, those messages are relict. The anti-everyone-system, called mental capacity system, works differently now. Your learning speed decreases long before those messages and does not drop to zero after them. But close to zero. Ask a dev for details.

Note that those messages do not imply you are a powergamer. I ran into that skill cap within some minutes(!) while testing something.

thanks for the answers, I may have been powergaming at the time trying to figure some things out...I'm still new and don't know most things yet

but I've also found that I get those messages more when reading books in the library than when doing anything else so I was curious as to whether it had something to do with reading

Hm..a lot of people are open about powergaming (even gms), but try to keep that at a minimal.

I get this message all the time and I am definitely not a PGer ask anyone who knows me. The best thing to do is this, when you get the first message, go RP for an hour or so. Do not time yourself though just emjoy some good RP. Once it is over go practice your craft some more. If you get the urgently need to rest message, now you need to wait almost two hours before you can train again. So this is better if you know you are gone to have a really good long RP session.

It's far away from the topic now.
