Leather straps

Currently if you try to smith a shield you need leather, presumably to have something to grab the shield from...

This suggestion aims to expand that:

There will be 5 new items, which can be made by tailors

Light Shield Straps 0%
Heavy Shield Straps 20%
Light Armour Straps 40%
Medium Armour Straps 60%
Heavy Armour Straps 75%

These will represent the straps needed to hold the shield (one size for 'small' shields, the other size for heavier shields), and the straps used in order to make bits of metal armour move (for example in between platemail).

This aims to give a good importance to tailors, and also an importance to GOOD tailors, since very expensive armour would require Heavy Armour straps, which would be sold for quite an amount.

i like that idea (especially because i am a tailor)

but what are your "%"-values for??

% values is the amount of skill a tailor needs to make them...

% of skill needed for producing the goods.

Meh.

Just some points:
1. Armor is already crikey-tastically expensive, not going to do any good here.
2. There would be about 2 people who could make the highest level straps and would have to supply these to everyone else in the game.
3. 75%?! They are bloody leather straps. I could probably make leather straps.
4. Things are getting more and more complicated to manufact again.

I think that we should actually figure out some ways to make tailored goods useful, instead of throwing those in for the sake of it. (Like, 1 fur item worn gives 50% save against cold (how illogical that ever may be) and two+ fur items give immunity). Let's make them useful, instead of frustrating and pissing people off (again).

Otherwise I also suggest, that tailors have to buy/make metal/bone/wood/silver the buttons for the shirts, coats and robes they are making. Which come with the following skill-levels:

Bone button (low level) 10% Carpentery and a bone (new item).
Wood button (medium level) 35% Carpentery and wood
Metal button (Above average level) 50% Blacksmithing
Silver button (High level goods) 75% Goldsmithing and (surprise) a silver coin.

..this way, we could give business to everyone else in illarion!

..
Would be just about equally fair.
(Cromwell doesn't like)

i think, i posted some time ago an idea for a system, that tailored goods have to be worn, and are used up by different activities.
(same as armours are used up by fighting)

umm..how to check his own percentage in tailoring??..and i think that still when you have 75% tailor skill you cant make "good" straps...

Screw that, just make a shield with a lemon on it instead, it'll be quicker and easier for everyone.

but it's a great idea, that the jobs are overlapping..smiths also buy handles from carpenters....so why not from tailors too?

I already suggested to add a new kind of high quality leather,
e.g. dragon hide.

Armors made of this kind of leather could be *nearly* as strong as steel items, and have other advantages like lower weight and good resistance against magic ... ((to simplify this for the develepers ... just adding new high quality items (armors) which can made from "normal" leather and hides would have the same effect))

This would really make the tailoring goods interesting for many fighters and mages.

But in my opinion, the problem is not that the tailors are unimportant, the problem is, that the game is designed for fighters and smiths only.
Those two groups are responsible for the main business ... The fighters are the main "consumers" on Gobiath (weapons and armors), the smiths are the main "producers" on Gobiath (weapons and armors ...). The rest of the people produces and/or consumes this and that, but this does not effect the economy much.

My one cent:

No thanks, it doesn't sound usefull, I'm pretty sure you could teach a monkey to make leather straps.

And if you're wondering the other cent was again tax money.

I have suggested it would be necessary to make and wear arming clothing (padded clothing) to wear helmets and torso armor of metal for a while now. These things while more realistic, would also add to the need for tailors from warriors. We could even make different slots appear for the metal armor and helmets after the padded clothes are equipped.

I didn't understand Gro'bul's idea, but I like it.

Edit: He explained, I understand, I still like. : )
