We need to do something with the farming system. It is not possible anymore to play a true full threw farmer. Because noone buys any of the goods. There is no need. This is more along the lines of asking for suggestion to fix this because frankly, other then requiring higher skills, I have no idea how we would go about doing this. Also with the new system, I can get anywhere from 10 to 12 for every grain I plant. I plant 140, do the math. THat is one day. And I only get exuasted at the end. And I do not have the best farming skill. only green. Some crops should be harder to grow so that not everybody can grow them. The way it is now, you get light blue farming which takes a week and you can easily make more then you plant. This is almost just taking the farmers package and being good to go, grow everything with success. This needs to be adjusted so that there is actually a POSSIBILTY for there to be farmers.

I sadly have to say, i don't get what you want.

Can you say clearly what you propose with one or two sentences?

make farming skill harder so that characters can actually play farming characters. Or make it possible to play farming characters some other way.

Uhm to be honest, farming is not that hard, I have some experience in rl and real farming, not using machines, its not that hard, plant the seeds, wait and harvest, thats it, just a bit watering(<- only with crops like tomatos and such) if the weather is bad, there is no reason to make it harder and backing is allready hard enough, so its better to have much grain, because backing just takes to much "ressources" anyway and there is no other use, maybe later with beer..but this will take..some time to be developed I guess and you can't take away the seeds or tools from people so its up to you to "show us how to play a farmer" I guess or do you really want a farmer Skill like 90% and then start to make it usefull?

In my eyes the problem is not, that farming is to easy but the problem is, that nearly every cook is also a farmer.
So simpel is it.

yeah that is a problem, but how do you make it so that not every cook is a farmer? just make farming a lil harder. I am not talking 90% till it is usefull, even 30 or 40% would be better, right now it's like 20 or 15% Maybe make it take longer, add a weed and water faze or something like that. because i can get about 2000 grain in half an hour. what other resource gathering thing can you do this for? it takes days to get this much ore, prolly a few hours to get this much wood. and in the meantime both the lumberjacks and the miners would have skill capped and beyon, but the farmer don't. i would even be happy with a double the time thing. supply and demand thing. right now there is to much supply and no demand. that is why i asked if someone could come up with some idea to fix it. mine only alters the supply bit.

Well, it's the same as almost every miner is also a smith, and almost every lumberjack is also a carpenter.

Why? Well, it earns more money, plus a smith can't afford to buy ore and coal untill he has a good income, so what does he do? Not buy it, make it, and so goes the same with a lot I think.

There are already a ton of good cooks and smiths around that might buy, but not all, and then they will get most of the money... they can make high-end items and fail the least, so they will be mostly selling it while a lot of other cooks/smiths/lumberjacks at lower levels only get to sell to a few players, or to npc's.

And Farming/cooking has another lesser thing there I guess... anyone can kill a pig and smoke the ham and eat between working, when running to the depot to dump your items. I dunno if anything has been changed there, but if it's as it used to be or largely so, it's easy.

The whole problem would be that people arn't enough dependant of eachother, and that the community may be too small for everyone wishing to learn a craft to sell to others but npcs... though I don't see a whole lot to change that at all....

I don't think making it harder will make it change too much, not enough to make a good impact.

Just my idea on it, may miss some stuff, late here and all that so live with me.

And.. taking from rl with the amounts, that's reasonably realistic for these times.. though back then they didn't have mostly the stuff we had, nor modificated plants, greenhouses and all that.

But, yeah what is there to a bit of simple farming?
Get seeds
Plant them in an okay location where there is enough shade/light, don't place it next to the wrong plants, but that mostly just applies to potatoes to my knowlage
Maybe sometimes a bit of manure and compost, depends on the crop.
Time...
Time...
done.

Though maybe, as I mentioned compost... that could be needed for farming if you want it to take a bit more action than just planting, waiting, farming and for grain flailing.

But otherwise, I don't know really.. aside from make people need farmers more. In those times on our world really, I would think atleast 50% of the population where farmers.
