Should this happen?..

Ok, I read about this game and it looks pretty cool. I downloaded the offline installer and the correct version of Java from the Illarion website. I installed the client and it is the correct version and I installed Java and it works as far as I can tell. When I try to play the game Java comes up and begins downloading a 34MB file. Should it do that, or is there something I did wrong?

A screen shot may be helpful, but it is very possible that it is updating the game and that they do not have the right client ready for instilation. Show us what you see so we know if it is or not.

Nah. The problem is: The offline installer doesn't seem to work.

Solution: Download online?

Yeah, the offline installer is a pain.
I got it to work, but only after uninstalling and re-installing a bunch of times under different weather conditions.

The offline installer is, as far as i know not up to date. If you get it running it will still download all the files again to get up to date.

You should use the online installation since this one works for sure.

When I updated to 1.00, I used the Offline installer, too. There is no need to download ALL files then.
But it can be a bit tricky to get it work: Uninstall all old files (but backup your "Illarion"-folder), then try the Offline Installer. I had to wait quite some minutes (progress bar didn't move), but then it suddenly was installed correctly.

PS: The homepage still says that 0.99 is the actual client.
PPS: I still don't know, where the Illarion files are now saved on my computer. Before the last client update, it was deep in the directory of Sun/Java, but now?

It's in the "Own Files" folder for me.

Own Files\Illarion

That's the location where your character stuff (names, logs, maps) and the client settings are stored, but not the game data.

I fixed it, after reinstalling it a couple times. It was initially a 34MB download which didn't seem right to me, but it went down to 9MB which seemed more reasonable. Thanks for your input.

My pc doesn't give any other maps for illa, except for the char logs. And deep in the Java maps I couldn't find anything neither.

Yes, but if you use the Offline-Installer, there is no 34 MB big Online-Update.

And we are still searching where the game data is located...

Code: Select all

C:\Documents and Settings\<current windows account name>\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javaws\http\Ddownload.illarion.org\P80
There.

Code: Select all

C:\Documents and Settings\<current windows account name>\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0
This folder holds the last execute java application. In case you delete the first one, the client will still run with this files until you execute a other javaws application.
