Special races change

I'd propose elves become a special race, and goblins become a normal one.
Seriously. We need more goblins, and less elves played like humans.
Elves should be somewhat arrogant, selfish, etc.. I've rarely seen (Only a few) well-played elves, it kind of ruins it.

Wouldn't that result in more goblins played like humans?

You can't make a special race a normal race just because you want to see more of them.

It seems the character of an elf may be up to interpretation of the PO also,

"In general the character of an Elf is quite mild–tempered and friendly, also towards people of other races; still they prefer the company of their own"

There should be no special races, just normal.

All the Orcs are played fine and unique for a normal race, i am sure the other races will be fine.

I agree with Retlak here. I think that all the races should be equal! :D

I agree with Karl, because there are to much elves ingame. But goblins and gnomes are just are, same like fiarys. But in fact, we need more goblins, and elves should change in a special race.

Bingo! No where in the description does it mention arrogance and selfishness. In fact, when I read it, I interpret the opposite of that.

Well, yeah. I didn't really mean all elves should be arrogant and selfish, but elves should be played differently than humans.. Not sure you understand what I mean.
Seems there's absolutely not difference between both elves and humans nowadays..

please elaborate "played differently"

Humans =/= elves

Yes, but your question is quite otiose.

'Why should red look different than blue?'
'Why should elves be different than humans?'

Edit:
Oh and:
Adjective: otiose ['owshee`ows]
- Serving no useful purpose; having no excuse for being.

the question is not "why" it is "in what way", especially in your opinion also considering what Kaila quoted.

It's not the 'how', it's more the fact that elves are played like humans. You can hardly make out any difference.

Elves should be more wiselike, err.. Come on, you know what I mean. More peaceful, more calm..

Kind of hard to get what you mean if you don't mean what you type.

sorry for teasing and delaying.

I know what you mean Karl, I just wanted you to imagine yourself how you would like to see elves played. I think the main problem here is that a big difference between humans and elves is their "wisdom" and everything how they act according to it.

But we, the players, are just humans aswell and the char can´t be more intelligent or wiser than its player is.

If you think the way e.g. of the elves "intelligence" further, it could end in an IQ test before one can make an elven char.

Well, there is a way to play more wise then you're, that's the way I play Tinuva mostly. Tinuva understands alot etc. I do the most things too. But if I need some things to get in to my mind first, Tinuva nodded or said yes already.

And point 1 of being an elf: Be cynical, and don't talk too much ;)

I think it would be good to make elves a special race, because most of them are really played like humans. The status of goblins should'nt be changed.

Elves should be played generally as one of or several of:

-Nature lovers
-Archers
-Friendly to all OR proud and arrogant
-Wise for the older ones
-Loving
-Religious often

But then there were elves like Dravish, who was amazingly rped and a great char concept as well as being evil.

Sure, a little variation 'twixt elves and humans would be nice, but the races as a whole aren't much different, and your "THEY MUST BE ARROGANT" business is just one of many ways to rp an elf.

That's why I love to play Tinuva as elf, he is friendly to everyone, but he simply doesn't care about what other races think that are big problems ^_^

Personally, I think either A) all races but human should be 'special' races, and applied for, or B) there shouldn't be any special races.

I'd go for A.

You get an essay to do regarding that race, and if you pass you're in...

Lyke the old days.

elves should be.... (so or so)

i am not sure, if i can express exactly, what i want to say, but to me it seems, the "specialness" of elves gets lost due to too many contacts with humans.
elves are defined as being very long-living. so they should be a lot less "hasty", than humans are.
and, i think, generally they should not even be interested in humans.
from elven view, what can a human offer? a creature, that does not even reach the age of understanding things, when it is bound to die allready?

i can see elves to bee "evil" but i can't see elves to be "bad".
an elf, who plans for supremancy, who wants to be overlord of all beings, i can see.
but i can't see an elf, who robs for a couple of silvers...

i could even see an evil elven mage, who ...erm... kills a couple of humans, just because they disturbed his meditation.
but i can't visual an elf, that wants to become rich.

and, a sore point in illa, i simply can't understand all that eves, that "feel" special bonds to mere humans...
in a life, counted by centuries, i can't see such a human urge for everything sexual.
apart from the impression, that among elves, sexual relations with humans should be regarded as something sodomitic.

in short, elves should be something, for humans to look at in awe.
not just slim, tall humans.

goblins and gnomes... every player should be able, to screw up a little bit his writings and behave a bit "strange". but to play a demigod (and that is, what Tolkinian elves* should be) should be really special.

.
*(in contrast to, lets say, the elfess in peter pan)

this would give us double the amount of humans we already have in game, or even triple. And i think there are already too many.
