Crafting

Post by Talaena Landessi »

Okay...One of two things need to happen in my opinion. Either A) make it so that there is an npc that you trade any item craftable too ((or more then one npc)) or b) make it so that you fail at making the item all the way up until a certain amount of times of making it , where after that you can make the item without failure whenever you want, but also give you the next tier of available craftables

An example for option B:

Leatherworking.

You have to -try- to make 100 shoes before you can begin to make then next item (which i think is boots)) once you make your 100th attempt at the shoes you can make them perfectly from then on, though thier quality will determine on your overall skill.

Though you will need to -try- to make boots a hundred times to be able to craft them without failure, and unlock the next item up.

-------Option A would make it so that you always have someone to sell things to, so you at least get some money back for the time and effort you put into gathering and crafting for your craft.
-------Option B would make it so that you dont have a whole bunch of worthless items.....

Both crafting and NPC's/economy are being worked on, actually, so have patience. It will be better soon.

This is just something I thought of a few weeks back when trying to make a sword.

Mine iron, mine coal. Take them to a forge, possibly get an iron sheet. Take the iron sheet to a smithy, possibly get a sword blade. Saw some branches off a cherry tree, odds are you will get a branch...but that's not the point. Attempt to make a sword handle...

Now, I would think...that it wouldn't take much skill to insert a blade into a piece of wood; but boy was I wrong.

#me attempts to place a blade inside a hilt, but fails...ruining both components.

I'm all for realism, but this is a game after all...KISS: Keep it simple stupid.

I want to hammer a piece of iron and coal together inside my hand and make a knight shield!

Just wait for the new system. It has LOTS of improvements, and it will be fun to learn craftmenship again.

At the moment, server code is being rewritten by our tech staff. That will take some time. You can see news about this on the technical development board (just browse through Cassy's posts there). Our tech guys have been working a LOT through the last weeks or even months.

No offense Damien, but you've given the same "just wait for the new systems" speach for five years ;)

The new crafting system is a matter of let's say few weeks, not years.

Option a) is planned along serveral other changes to improve the economy and the overall gameplay, but is has a rather low priority. The reason is that there are working NPCs, even though they are not satisfying. There is no working newbie island and no working priest magic system, thus, those things have a higher priority. And I am not telling you a secret if I state that the devs are more motivated to code brand new systems instead of tweaking existing ones.

Newbie island is a terrible idea.

And it seems to me by not having suitable replacements ready, just removing systems and constantly saying "just wait for the new one" is a step back

But it's not, since the old one will be working until the new one comes.

Care to elaborate?
just removing systems and constantly saying "just wait for the new one" is a step back
Agreed. Removing the druid and old magic system was due to the change from the old scripting language to Lua. A proper replacement is needed.

How can a newbie island possibly be lore correct?

Oh there are several possible explanations from this :

1. A station in between being shipped somewhere else. The passenger left the ship because he wanted to sleep in a real bed over that night. But then, the ship continues without the passenger because he overslept in the hotel and missed the departure, perhaps from too much ale. The only ship leaving during the next months heads to Troll's Bane though...

2. The newbie island is a dirty pirate island full of cutthroats and has an unpretty landscape. You don't get anything to drink there but cheap rum and bilge water, and it's more like a cutthroat island than anything else. And even for cutthroats, there's not much to do. For some unlucky reason, you have stranded there, and the only ship leaves to TB. Arr !

3. The newbie island is a place full of man-eating natives and a volcano that will break out every moment. You have to get that ship passage to TB...
etc...

@4 : *goes to Newbie Island*

5. Newbie Island is a game that everyone has after getting very, very drunk, and they wake up in the Trollsbane library somehow :P

So its an OOC island, it already doesn't help the Rp to turn up in a library.

"Where are you from?"
"Well I'm new here, I've just come from newbie island"

"I'm a newbie, I just came from newbie island"

Sorry, but I'm with turney on this one, all the way
