My own rules for good RP

Along a long night drive I thought it might be helpfully to tell new players what I have learned over a year RP and what rules I using for myself. I hope many other Players answering and do the same to help nOOb's a bit
outside of the manual

1.) very important -------> not leaving a scene unfinished or log out before you have finished ( only technically Problems with PC or I-Net stopping me )

2.) Involve much Players to your Char, the more the better.

3.) try to learn play in both languages.. its so much more fun
 Hard -- I know it really -- but it works properly and let me enjoy the game much more. Besides there are many jokes then when your english knowledge fail and you speak a bit funny nonsens :P

4.) NEVER attack a player without any reason with Ctrl. click

5.) think about the Character of your Char. Stay close and without any compromise to the features and story.

6.) Trying to mix not OOC and IG, don't like a Person doesn't mean don't like to play with his Char's and the other way around

7.) Not using OOC informations for my play

8.) VERY less using OOC talk in the game. It disturb my RP , I hate discussions and talking IG in OOC. Only talking OOC in game whne its absolutely necessary and then short as possible

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

4.) Attackiere keinen Spieler ohne Grund mit Crl./ Click

5.) denke immer an den Charakter Deines Char's. Bleibe stets nah dabei und an Deiner Geschichte ohne Kompromisse

9) Killing pigs is NOT a good way to RP... *sighs*

It DOES help your RP to have a good background story for your char, even if you don't publish it and it remains secret. Sticking to that story helps you to keep ig and ooc separate, and also helps to keep the emotions/actions of your char separate from you. In other words, think what your char would do, not what you would do.

If you are ghosted, even though you come back, you ARE still hurt and injured, this is part of RP.

A technical aspect that was very helpful when I learned this
Shift/Home erases everything you were going to type, in case your typing skills are slower then the conversation

My own rules for good RP
try to learn play in both languages
Hence if you don't 'try to learn play in both languages' then you don't conform to your rules of good RP and hence, according to you, you therefore don't rp well.

"You can't rp well if you don't speak German"

Alex, this means, if you got a basic knowlegde in the 2nd language. If you really wish, you can of course learn German from the bottom and try to use it ingame, which for sure will take at least some months to do.
I guess, Aly referred more to German players who learn English as from the 5th grade at school, so most actually do have a basic knowledge in English.

don't always consider yourself to be that important that everyone tries to tease you  :P

A. I wasn't flaming, I was just proving a point via provocation.
B. That's a mix between ooc and ig to dislike someone's rp because they flame.

My work here is done.

Doris, even if you're not supposed to know who I am, don't worry. You know I like you a lot, and that I also think Alex is an arrogant, annoying brat, but this time he's right.
It's nearly impossible to learn German for new players if they only speak English. Seriously. Unless they play for a year or so, then MAYBE they'll start knowing a word or two, but apart from that, it's nearly impossible.
Anyways, my little tips:

1- Remember that other characters CANNOT know what your own char is thinking, or what his feelings are. Try to represent your character's thoughts or emotions through facial expressions, sighs, etc..
e.g:

NOT GOOD: #me walks into the tavern, very sad because his cat has died.
GOOD: #me walks into the tavern with a tardy, loitering pace. His head downcast to the ground, a saddened expression on his face. His lips let elude of a deep sigh before he slips down a chair.

mmh .. mmh .. first I am so suprised that you kniow my name, have not a clue who you are...

Next: this thread was named MY OWN RULES and read Dariyas Post... .. OWN rules , not meaning other peoples, only my thoughts for good RP Hun..

So I am annoyed about Alex stupid answering.. this isn't helpful.

You are right, but it said on your very first reply:
Doris wrote:I hope many other Players answering and do the same to help nOOb's a bit
outside of the manual.
But I agree, Alex can be annoying a times.
Now no more off-topic, I smell Arien coming with a lock in the hands. O_O

I spent time learning some german before, I should do it again, I'm not very good at it anymore, but it really does help, english only players should be less ignorant, be happy that the staff even MADE an english client for you.

The fact that you say they are YOUR OWN RULES, to me only makes me think of the point of this topic. You already know your own rules, and why should other people just follow what YOUR OWN RULES are.

I know a couple of words in German, I should try to learn more though

Come on guys, Alex Skaalib etc. Doris only wanted to help new players about RP a little, why do you need to keep finding useless flaws? She didnt express exactly what she wanted by 'her own rules' but so what? Anyone here who's not retarded can understand what she wants.

Swear words do not count :P

I for one can speak moderate English perhaps. But to ROLEPLAY...that requires especially descriptive adjectives/adverbs which I never used nor needed. It´s just a matter of experience and "training". And this is what she meant. If you are able to, do it. It offers much more flexibility and fun.

Well, putting all the flaming aside, I'd like to make a comment to this rule:
1.) very important -------> not leaving a scene unfinished or log out before you have finished ( only technically Problems with PC or I-Net stopping me )
Yes, it's annoying, but sometimes we are forced to leave, and there is no way the scene could really end without affecting your chars to greatly.

I find this to happen to me also at times, and sure, it's no fun for any one of those involved.

But, real life comes first, without rl we wouldn't be able to rp, but without rp we would be able to live rl, and rp another time.

And uhm, most of there rules stated are game rules already, no?

Most the illarion community have an inferiority complex, and try to be-little others to make themselves feel important. *shrugs* And i gree with Dorris, but she should know that you cant post anything without people on this forum trying to turn it into a flame war.

nobody needs to be afraid from playing in the other language.
and for emotions, the most players make them much too long and put things in that dont belong. in a foreign language this is less probable.

Meine Deutsch = nein gut.

Alytys Lamar wrote: 2.) Involve much Players to your Char, the more the better.
Being popular has always been the key to being labeled a good roleplayer as long as I've been here. So this is definately a good idea.

I think it is a great idea to learn the other language in the game. It is a great place to do it and you find a whole nother side of rp. There are a few conversations I've had ig that I could never have had if I just spoke English. If I was better there would be so many more and much more intense rp with even more players. Plus you understand the problems people have when speaking your lanaguage and can help each other out, ig and out of.
