Is anyone sure about how many aspiring mages there are so I can get an Idea of how long I am going to have to wait to get a teacher, If i dont make it with the first group of students being taught?

I don't know how many, I heard there was a lot though. I was also curious how long the classes are expected to take if waiting for another one, or will that depend on the teacher?

Based on the past escapades in magery, I wouldn't advise any holding of breath.

You mean to tell me with 6 teachers they cant teach everyone who wants to be a mage, warlock, sage, or any of the other class that uses ruins. Ya right (with as much sarcasm as he can muster)

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. That makes a maximum of 18 students, some teachers would prefer to teach in german, and they would also teach people whom they like and/or seen around and know what they are about. And it doesnt work by going up to one of them and saying "Can you teach me magic", because you wouldn't get a great response from that. Go out and make casual inquiries, and you might find someone *shrugs* or you might have to wait a while.

... Again and again everybody's complaining about the magic system.. Hey, the new system is great and everybody has the chance to become a apprentice. I mean, it depends on the behave of the character tough, but everybody has a fair chance to get* a mage now.

Edit: *Become

I am not complaining about the magic system at all not in the least all I wanted was information on how many aspiring mages there are IG and I was being sarcastic about everyone should be able to become a mage. I know that time and patience will be needed to become a Mage I was just wondering how many there were thats all. And to the posts above me are you a teacher?

Negative.....I am no teacher. I am the naughty student who needs to be taught a real lesson in discipline.

Are you a teacher?

No he isn't, check the academy list and then perhaps use the search function if you really want to pm each on the list, but that might just annoy them.

How about walking around ig (in TB or even better: the academy) and meet the teachers ig? Most of them are online at the academy theese days.

Ok let me clarify my question; How many aspiring mages are there on Gobaith? I got my answer:
How many aspiring mages = A Metric Ass-ton
I was not complaining about the magic system I am not looking for a teacher, I asked you if you were because you seemed to be knowledgeable. But I see that you are frustrated with a Newbie question. Is this not where I am supposed to ask questions that have nothing to do with RPing or that will help me RP better? I have sent doves to teachers and have met some IG. On top of all this I asked the question while the server was down for 5 hours. I am sorry if I have frustrated anyone with my question.

I've been playing 18 months and have only 2 runes. The combination of which allow me to cast a basic illusion.

Don't hold your breath.

(But yay Will's finally got a master now ^^)

EDIT: God, don't quote someone then say something completely irrelevant. You realise Silas alone got 14 applicants? And some of these are good rpers who've been around for a long time. As I said, it's taken 18 months for me to get a MASTER, let alone the runes themselves. Basically, according to your forum account you started in December. Hence you are a new player and therefore are at a huge disadvantage and it is doubtful that after a month of playing someone will just teach you. (Unless you're Avalyon >_>).
Yes Marius, that was a flame.

I would advise walking upto Athian or Silas IG and using the line supplied below.

#s Wanna learn magic, you teach magic? I want to be a mage, you teach me right?

If it first it does not succeed try again. Persistance is one of the traits they look for in an apprentice.

Rofl... I'll try that the next time I see one of them online. Thanks for the advice Darren.

Everyone, try to be slightly nicer to newbies.. ;)

Hey HolyKnight,
don't worry about them, they have nothing against you, they just think it's funny to mock newcomers who have no clue of what's happening.
Anyways, to answer your question:
I've myself been playing for .. all together a maximum of 4 months. I've -never- even bothered trying a mage until a few days ago, and the day I decided to become a mage, I got a teacher.
So it honestly all depends on the relations you tie to yourself, the level of your roleplay, and most certainly, luck.

If you're new, I advice you just hang around a little, play some normal crafters or fighters until you know a bit about magic, the system and such things, then try your luck finding a teacher.

Good luck, and if you need help, there's the 'Priv Msg' button under all my replies, click it ;)

Alex, Be nice

-
The waiting time depends, totaly.
It depends on how long other magic adepts stay with their teachers, and wether you find that one right for your character.

My advice is first spend some time ingame, develop your characters and such.

You'll just have to see,
and stop watching me!
For in the nightly nocternal night,
characters show their true might!
Now I must go and win a food fight.

[Insert more random, and pretty crappy poems here]

I just ate a really tasty tomato.

And that'd be about it.

Do you mean the thing, that you cannot cast more then three illusions at one time? Because if you mean that, it's not a bug. They made thoose lhor + element rune-spells taking a lot of mana, because some adepts were training up to a thousand level ups a day :P

No i simply don't got any runes yet, I know where the academy is and I was in this room down there, but athian couldn't teach me...thats why it is ****** up : (.

He doesn't have any runes. You realise he started playing many years ago? He just came back and... well his mage character is useless now.

Alex simply shut up if you know nothing, I still call them runes, but ath can cast spells, I saw him several times doing it.

HolyKnight it does come down a lot to luck learning magic. The guy I quote is lucky, incredibly lucky that he finds a teacher on his first day. Pellandria had a teacher; that was lucky, now she doesn't; that is unlucky. But if you keep trying you are bound eventually to find someone to teach you.
And sometimes it can be a little unfair, and you never hear people who are lucky complaining about that. And you do have to suck up to mage chars, but that is life (for your char in illarion). Good luck!

'The guy you quote' is not a new player, just a new character ;)
So not that lucky ;)

I still got a teacher..just there seems to be some kind of problem with the system, guess only athian knows whats wrong.
