Mmm i think he actually did quite well, and your the one in the wrong, beleive it or not a game which allows you do enter without any tests does not promote strict roleplaying, and it can only be learnt by time. Inseated of harassing him you should have explained that he should search for a mage teacher who may be able to help him.

And yes im a biach

I would have recommended he create a new char and learn to play other aspects of the game first before wasting his time telling him to look for a mage teacher. Theres alot of mage n00blets, but its hopeless for them until they can develope further into the game before they'll ever get magic.

I know, but honestly, who doesnt like annoying Samantha :D

But on a serious note, perhaps the GM's should put a warning somewhere easily found for the new players, lazy ones included that it involves a lot of time and hard work to become a mage, best if you start as a different proffession

Just to write something, as a almost new one... ;-) I startet a few weeks ago, it was hard at the beginning, and I was really really thankful for those who explained something.... There is no explaination what to do, what not, and here in the forum, a lot in english, not in german.
It also takes a time to get deeper in Roleplaying, if you never did it before....

So let some newbies a chance ;-) not the ones, who just fight, but some who asked a lot of silly questions ;-)

I don't know if they were newbies, but yesterday someone said that I did forced roleplay, because my Char grabbed an goblin and slaped him, so funny, like a goblin could do anything against a woman, which is grabbin his arms just before she slaps him..

as i wrote allready somewhere else, mages should be something special.

why not block mages? so that an aplication is needed to play a mage.
(and give it only to those, who allready proofed to be average or better players)

Forced rp is " slits you open from top to bottom and you can do something against it" but you know how long a slap takes, its not even a second, there are things you simply can't react too and then he had no hand free to block the hand anyway, this people you really should find out what forced rp means, but well just a game.

I guess an "outch" is good enough, you don't feel something else then that, if you're legs are armored and please the dwarf holding my hand, he stood on the wrong site, but ok next time I will writte "me looks down to her armoured legs and says" autsch"" better for you I guess, oh yes maybe I will writte then "me slowely raises her hand, maybe she wants to slap the goblin", guess you get the point hu?
Again I pretty much like how races just don't count there in illa, dwarfs and goblins hugging each other, orcs and elf's kissing each other, but yeah...

You want to teach me boy, geez I played this games for years I know that #me, specialy in figths, are good, but I can't writte you pagelong storys.

Saying #me slaps someone is forced rp
I'm sorry, there is no arguement against it. Forced rp is the concept by which the opposing character has no chance to affect the emote. Therefore your example and #me slaps him are entirely the same
And it does not work on realism either. If a charcter is 1 tile away, against an unarmoured bard, they could #me stabs him in the chest with a dagger, and it would still be forced rp, even though realistically, there would be nothing they could do about it.
And I think perhaps you are not such a good player if you play for such a long time and dont even read the rules.

Power emotes, which have effects on other characters and don't give them the opportunity to react are prohibited (e.g. "#me chops off the dwarf's head").
Now, I am against powergaming as much or more than most people... and maybe it's just me... but it sure seems to me that you can still react *after* being slapped. Some people have been going WAY too far with the 'no force-RP' argument, IMHO.

You might consider it 'rude' RP... but not strictly speaking 'forced' RP, as you are perfectly able to respond to it.

Just #me attempts to slap him or #me aims a slap at his cheek.

It may suck as much, but it isn't as much against the rules ;)

But really... and this goes out to everyone, not any one person in particular... moaning about 'you did this' and 'but you did that!' can really scare people away from this game. That has become the focus of these boards... whereas within the actual game, it's nowhere near that bad. I actually recommend to newcomers not to even read the forums, unless they need help in the technical forum, until they have played the game a few days. Because it gives such a negative impression of the game.

::steps off the soapbox:: Ahem. Yeah, anyway...

You can choose to "ignore" forced RP by treating it as "tries" unless you choose to act it. So if someone stabs you, you simply dodge it afterwards. Simple.

Silas Farron wrote: And in fact my Gobbo DID react after bieng slapped, and this was kicking against Pel's leg.
Wrong, You kicked me and then I slapped you, so much to reaction its more like your reaction to my grabbing, but okay this is going to far anyway. and would i have wanted a fight with only technical usage I would just have crtl+clicked you, maybe next time you just could do something like " exames the legs" or something and like Nirantae said, this "forced rp" argument is to overused, dammit it was just a slap wasn't it, next time I look at any character they will say its forced because they are uber thief with stealth so noone can see him...

O_o

You don't examine someone's legs and then kick them, that's stupid. You just kick them. It'd be ridiculous examing everyone before you attack them. Just plain ridiculous.

That somone slap you is very embarasing. You said you grabed the goblin... One can EASILY avoid being grabed. A small goblin in specific. That was clearly forced rp. If I was "silas" I would just say I avoided your grabing.

Then he can't brag about that I said him ooc that i had armoured Legs and who else is stupid enough to just kick, in times like this, you could hurt your feet if you just kick somewhere, atleast anyone looks at it for a second, well he "accepted" the grab with saying that the goblin struggels, I could have lived with an " dodges the grab" or something else too, just like Cromwell said, react after it so everyone is ok with it, I don't take all #me's for a spoken word, never said he should react like I slapped him anyway, but I can't know how his goblin is, so if he let me grab him, then he brags about that I slapped him, strange somehow.

Pellandria,
do you happen to be a relative of PO Samantha?

Times have changed. Just because you could do this years ago, doesn't mean you can do it now. You can't just ignore #mes which you choose to or because you think the character did a stupid thing. You can't do something in which the other player has no way of responding. It is you who is in the wrong here, and you should start thinking of illarion's rp as it is today, rather than what you could get away with some years back. His character is entitled to make a stupid decision. This doesn't make his #me invalid, it just means maybe the goblin could kick her in the shin, she could be hurt a little and he could hop up and down on the spot, grabbing his foot as it hurts. You can't force rp someone and then ignore a #me because it doesn't suit you -.- .

Actually, that's not necessary at all because the action was entirely his own. You can still "#me doesn't pay attention to his words" if you want to be an arse, though. :P
