The return of Dusty

Dusty was originally named 'Dustin' after his father Dustin of the halfling clan of Bottoms, living in the 'Bottomlands' of the Deerborn River. A farmer supporting his mother and sister after his father had died, he was wrenched from this quaint rural life when Barbarian hordes attacked and burned his village, despite warning signs that they were about. With nothing to stay for, he left for safer fields and vowed that never again would he be so blind to danger.
Upon arriving in Gobiath, Dusty found the town of Greenbriar, desolate, disused and empty. He immediately tried to spur some interest in it while working on earning a living in Carpentry. However a general lack of interest dominated and Dusty focused on his increasing network of friends and associates, as well as his natural ability to trade.
All he had known was farming, yet, here in this land called Gobiath, a whole new world opened up to him. He was curious about all manner of things and he began to learn carpentry, tailoring, smithing, Dying, cooking and many skills necessary to compliment his first passion of trade. Through trade, he could get his customers anything they needed. A self-made halfling, he began a traveling caravan known as "Dusty Markets" to encourage trade in other towns like his beloved Greenbriar.
Finally, on the 5th of Zhas, year 19, Dusty assumed leadership of the Hamlet of Greenbriar after a series of rumors, threats and monsters threatened his home of Greenbriar. He juggled the business of trade and the responsibilty of leading the Hamlet of Greenbriar. It wasn't an easy task, but he had many friends to help him."
One year later, a letter arrived from his sister, who had sailed out to the mainland only a month earlier. This letter said she was in danger, and he immediatley resigned his position as Mayor and journeyed for nearly a year through the shantytowns and wharfs of the mainland searching for his sister. Finally, at long last, he found her.........grave. He vowed to avenge her, and spent the next few weeks searching. Finally he signed on as a cook onto the ship "Adventure", in which he heard tell of how the captain had captured and killed the crew of the "Ghost", on which his sister was first mate at the time. Her fate wasn't ended so quickly, as she was sold to slavers, and died slowly later.
That evening, Dusty concocted a special poison he learned from his Orc friends, it seemed so long ago. He prepared the Captain's meal and put it in his drink just prior to dinner. Dusty stood and watched as the captain ate, grinning as the Captain began to sweat, clutching his neck and finally expiring. He then threw a table out of the window, and jumped into the ocean.
Floating for 3 days and seemingly endless nights, the small fellow and his lifesaving 'table' finally washed ashore in a strange part of the mainland. Making his way to the city, he met a traveller on the road. Travelling the same direction, they talked about their travels. Dusty related his story during the journey for some food and water. Making their way into the city, the guards oddly saluted the traveller and when Dusy questioned this, he was asked if he could visit the Palace with him. Curious, Dusty consented, and they made their way to the Palace. Upon entry, the nobles began calling the traveller "Sire". Dumbfounded, Dusty again asked what was happening. "My dear fellow, you have shown me friendship despite your recent troubles, yet it is your journey I wish to discuss further. I am the monarch of this land, and I wish to reward you for your accomplishment." the 'traveller said'.
"Accomplishment?" Dusty asked.
"Yes. By a miracle, you have killed our most wanted pirate, who has beeen raiding and terrorizing these shores for years. What can I do to repay you?"
Dusty considered for a moment, all that he had achieved, his home of Greenbriar and the friends he missed. "I would like passage back to Gobiath".
The monarch nodded, "No doubt to return home. No money or land? How very uncommon and noble. For that I will also confer upon you the Title "Baron of the Western Sea" an honorary title befitting your noble intentions. We shall also send you home, Dusty Bottoms of Greenbriar, and may your countrymen remember what you have done for us, and all seafaring peoples."
Dusty nearly cried. He had never thought himself a Noble, just a simple person. But, perhaps that's all true Nobles are, simple people doing their best.
With a weeks rest and some supplies, Dusty boarded a ship for home.....Greenbriar.
