robbery number five

Post by Jeanette »

The poor thing. Four times before she had been robbed. Four until today, and not once had she been hurt, but again she was accosted only time she wasn't so lucky. Only the unlucky get robbed five times in the same place, or the stupid.

Jeanette was kneeling on the floor in front of the depot. She had just woken up and was getting her pickaxe to go to the mines. She liked to start each day with a few hours of hard labor. She had just slid the pickaxe in her belt and grabbed an empty bag when a sword blade flashed in front of her face and a firm hand clamped over her mouth from behind her. She sat rigid, and a voice was whispering to her. She had nothing to give, her pockets were empty. He demanded that she obey but she was frozen with fear. The robber slashed at her unprotected back, easily through the thin fabric of her blouse and bit deep into her flesh. He made off with some of her things, her bag, an old hunting armor, and her only pickaxe; and he left her bleeding on the floor.

A young man found her propped against the wall in the shop and with the help of a halfling carried her to the room on the first floor of the hospital. She fell in and out of consciousness as they crudely sewed shut her wounds.

When Jeanette opened her eyes she had no idea how much time had gone by, but there was a halfling there. He didn't look at her or even really move much. He stared at the floor, his nose and eyes were red. She couldn't speak... her throat was dry and she was too weak. Her back burned and some parts of it she couldn't feel. Her clothes were wet and heavy, she wondered where she was, and why it was so hard to breathe.

Jeanette knew the girl that sat with her, she knew her but couldn't speak because the pain was just too much. She managed to whisper something: a name, to the girl. She was very nice, sitting with her, holding her hand, whispering to her, treating and redressing her wounds. But Jeanette still didn't know where she was exactly, figuring she was in some sort of hospital. She wanted to sleep but she wasn't sure if the blackness that kept sweeping over her was really sleeping. At least it was something of a release.

She didn't sleep much that night or during the two days that followed. She was thirsty to the a dangerous point of dehydration and she just kept getting weaker. With all the blood loss and the lack of nutrients it wasn't looking very good for Jeanette at all....

Jeanette didn't wonder who was feeding her. She didn't know them and if she did she didn't recognize them. She could feel her strength returning and she was able to stay awake for longer periods of time but she couldn't really remember much every time she woke up. The world around her was fuzzy, and so were her memories. When she remembered that she'd been attacked she panicked but it didn't last for long and always ended up falling asleep.

Rainny was constantly in and out of the Hospital. Whenever she would leave for her own personal duties, a druid would tell her that Jeanette had woken up. She would run back as quick as she could, But she'd never make it in time. She cooked all the food that was to be given to Jeanette herself. The druids were reluctant to do this at first, but agreed after a little...persuasion.

She cooked fish, sausages, cakes, and soup, but mostly she mades soups for jeanette. Mushroom, Muligans, Onion, and cabbage soup, pouring firnis blossom leaves into the liquid to help her internal wounds heal faster, and hopefull heal her cough. But to drink, Rainny always fetched water, and put nothing in the water. She knew that the cold water would soothe the throat already, and that the food would be more than suffecient. All she could do is return every night to hold the womans hand, and sleep in the chair, with her head on the edge of the bed.

After a time Jeanette's head became more clear. She felt ridiculous at all the attention the druids would give her, she just wasn't used to it. She was glad for Rainny's company but she was always watching the door waiting for someone she knew wouldn't come. The small conversations the two girls had was the only thing that made Jeanette's time in the hospital bearable. She couldn't wait to get back to work, she hated feeling useless.
