Asassin

What should the stats of an Asassin look like? Also, how do the diferent skills "react" with the atributes?

Depends on the "style" of your assassin.
If your assassin prefers to kill from distance, you should look into the attributes of a bowman, on the other hand if your character likes to do the dirty work close and personal, you should look into the attributes of a warrior.

Take a browse through the newbie board for more informations about attributes and what they could influence and what not.

Ok. I think the asassin should be ok with crossbow, but better in close combat. He should of course be swift, and good at hiding.

In this case I strongly suggest you set all attributes, including intelligence and essence to 20. Nothing less.

What? I dont have enough points to set them all to 20?!

Absolutly correct, it was a little joke and a little lesson, that your character cannot be perfect in all fields you like.

As I said, take a little stroll through the newbie board, there are two "Stickies" that will give you a little insight into the matter of attribute points.
Loaded with this knowledge, and the templates we are offering during the character creation you'll surely be able to create a character after your liking.

Templates? I can't see any posts on what they do with your skills. only threads where it sais what the numbers mean. And one that sais things like agility is how fast you run... But what does f.ex. Perception do? Also, I dont want him to be good at everything... I want him to be ok with the crossbow, and good at close combat. Like an asassin would be;)

When you look at the templates its most of the time rather obvious what skills are supported by what attribute.

Lets take a look at:
Arthur the Knight
STR: 14
CON: 14
DEX: 14
AGI: 12
INT: 7
WIL: 9
PER: 7
ESS: 7

and his best friend:
Robin the Archer
STR: 11
CON: 8
DEX: 13
AGI: 13
INT: 8
WIL: 9
PER: 15
ESS: 7

You'll surely see on first glance the difference between them.
Now you just need to make up your mind what weapons of choise these two different people might have.
Arhtur for example likes cold steel and loves to make the enemy taste his sword on close range.
While on the other hand Robin strongly relies on his marksmanship skill with his beloved bow and likes to maintain a healty distance between himself and his foes.

Enough hints?

Hm, yea thank you, but what is preception? And what atributes do you think an asassin should have? Just forget about him using a bow, and focus on close combat. Please, post your propositions=D

Attributes do not affect skills. But they affect the chance to succeed in certain actions. Perception helps you to hit enemies with a bow, it helps you to search for mushrooms in the woods and other useful stuff.

For an assassin, I'd choose a high dexterity and agility. Hit fast, run faster ;-) Balanced attributes are better than maxed out attributes, don't forget to spend some points on willpower and such.

To be honest, as long as you don't want to become the best uber killer of da pack, set all attributes to something around 10 and enjoy the game. This way, you avoid frustration when you realize that the attributes you didn't assign many points in have a real use...

Whats dexterity for? I thought that was for making things?

Forget about this, unless you want to be the most useless assassin in the game. I can speak about such distribution of attributes with a raspy voice of disappointment. :?

(After all, chances are that an assassin is going to be trying to assasinate someone in a point of his existence, in which case it'd be a rather hard knock of life to notice how every fourteen years old girl character hits harder, faster and takes considerably more punishment than your "assassin".. :D )

Dexterity basicly tells you how apt or inapt your character is when using his/her hands.

Comes into play with hand-eye-coordination, nimble fingers and so on.

(Stephen uses this attribute more then he wants to admitt.)

There are some fighter types with maxed attributes who behave like they can do what they want because noone can really stop them.

But usually a char with evened attribute can become a good fighter, but only with a lot of practice. Which is why my char is usually ignored by everyone. I don't have the time nor the nerves to practice all day when I can do something a bit more intellectually challenging.

Dexterity is how hard you strike with puncture weapons?

by Estralis Seborian
Strength, dexterity, agility and perception affect the chance to hit. Wether you hit or not depends also on skills and other stuff like the weather ;-).

Each type of weapon features a different formula, dexterity is more important for puncture weapons than strength, but with concussion weapons, it is vice versa.

The inflicted damage also depends on the mentioned attributes.

intelligence 7
perception 7
strength 15
willpower 10

I suggest you lower the agility and raise the const.

No, for a stealthy character a high agility is fine. Just don't expect this character to master combat one on one. I'd suggest using more points on dex and less on strength to make him better using small weapons which are easier to hide.

I see, but how will the high agility help me? It is pretty important that he masters one on one combat, as he is an asassin though. He has to be able to strike fast, and hard, before he escapes, maybe letting the poison finish the job? How high dexterity about are you thinking?

Posted: Tue Nov 28, 2006 6:55 pm

Maybe not important to excell at dueling chars that are about as "good", but instead ecell at killing those who are weaker as fast as posible?

As I said, 13 agility and 15 const will do you much better.

But that doesn't match well with being an asassin..

Yes... because every assassin in the world is fast, good with ranged weapons and good with daggers

Realistically; not all, if any, assassins will be perfectly built for the job; have the perfect aim and the perfect body etc. You get good at something by learning it. In this way, someone who isn't very dextrous can still be good with a dagger, maybe not as easily as someone very dextrous, but still will be. And every person has their flaw. Noone is perfect. There is no set "match" to be in a field of work, it requires training. Being naturally good at something is okay, but not being so doesn't limit you.

But it is more likely for one with high agility to follow the path. Especialy since it is an elf he is making.

Frankly I think it's more likely for someone with a bad upbringing to become an assassin than an agile elf.
