Trade windows would be better; at the moment drop trading is lame. You must find a secluded place and even if you say #me passes him the thing, people will still pick it up.

We really need some sort of system to just hand an item to someone, rather than putting it on the floor. It's quite annoying.

yes if we could just give stuff to someone we wouldn't need a trade window

I kind of prefer the dropping on the floor, because it allows others to #me yanks it out of your hand and run away.
However it might rot, or something bad might happen, so YES we do need one of these...

I presonally dislike the idea of any safe-trade system. Well, I dislike the idea of technical toys limiting players in their actions entirely.
I would prefer if the devs found a way to ensure items wont rot away the second you place them on the ground. Maybe allow them two server cycles before rotting instead of just one?

Or replenish each items rot value every time you pick it up?

how would it be, if we could draw items directly on another char?

You should be able to see each other's inventory aka morrowind style so you can steal stuff etc.

You should be able to see each other's inventory ...
but only, if you have thief-skills.

Nah everyone can it's just the higher you thieving skill the less chance a warning appears on the screen like "You feel someone take something out of your pocket."
You can start with easy stuff and then work your way up.
Looky here I mentioned some easier thieving skills that could happen:

hmmm...
i dont understand, what the idea of corpses has to do with the idea of seeing somebody elses inventary.
and in real life i dont know, what others have in their pockets.
while experienced pickpocket will have a good idea, what people are carrying.

You can see what's on someone's belt.
And the corpses idea is that you can steal the corpse's inventory to build up basic thievery skill.

Or what about a "trade window" where you only can see the other player´s hand slots. So you can give items directly into his/her hands. In RL you wouldn´t put things on his/her belt.
(Please create a new topic for a thievery skills discussion, this one is about the trading system)

There would be no way for anyone to steal anyone except through banditry. I really am not that annoyed by drop trading, it really isnt that difficult or painful.

Well, that´s the purpose of banditry, isn´t it?
Till there is no game based thievery system you have to rob people by RP and #me commands...

Or walking by and grabbing something through an #me.

Yeah I don't care to be honest. I like the current system.

Of course it´s not that urgent. It would be just more comfortable.

Hrmm, and you all know, that there are functions in the menues to take up and to drop down items in front of your char without to have to draw them? That is much more easier than the only to draw them like in the past.
I am against a trading window. But i am for an more save use of trading tables, where the items do not rot so fast (but can be taken up and robbed).

change the rotting system somehow.

I never understood the rotting system, especially as the items do not rot, they dissapear.
If thats the case then put a 10 minute disapear time on the item for god sakes.

I suggest we make items to take about 5x more time before disappearing.

Afaik, well, afa-it seems, he is only asking if such a thing is possible.
Besides, I thought this was why we didnt have a proposal forum anymore, so people couldnt make proposals. It seems all that has happened is that distinctly curious people now rename their proposal into a 'suggestion' and pass it off on the general forum.
So here's a suggestion, re-open the proposal forum.
I doubt it will happen, because there's no doubt there was a reason it was taken down, yet still, I'm just making a point here.
I have a point.
What was my point?

#me looks at the man trading
#me rushes and grabs the item opens two portals and goes in
#me safely away open three more portals, so they will have to guess, and escapes
I agree

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure
Let me guess, you're running around, and you can still concentrate well enough to cast a spell..... yeah right.

the only problem i can see with the trading system we have now is the rot factor. I never understood why each item has a set lifetime. I can understand that if an item is on the the ground for X minutes it dissapears, but it doesnt make much sense to have that value replenished when it is picked up.
from what i can see there are only disadvantages from having rot values stay the same when you pick them up, and only advantages from having those values reset.

Okay, edited after talking to martin on irc:
The server does not remember rotting time of items. It, basically, allows every item you drop a set amount of server cycles before having them rot.
Cassandra can tell how exactly it is solved, but that should be it.
