Why has the price of furs gone down so much? one of my chars was able to make a decent living hunting wolves and panthers but now its so low its hardly worth it.

Propably other players sold their furs to the trader, so that he has changed his price. Every trader only trade (buying and selling) limited numbers of items and change their prices in depand of the storage and the mean price.
You also can ask the trader for his prices before you trade with him... If there are no bugs it should work. If there are bugs, report them.
Maybe next time you have more luck.

Why shouldn't someone be able to make a living off of fur, Arameh?
Then French fur trappers that are undoubtedly your ancestors had no problem doing so.

The fur trappers of the past and of the present have a market. The market for furs in illarion is limited on a single npc who buys a small number to export them to other countries far away.

I'm with Taliss, here. The economy of Illarion is set up in such a way that people who focus on one job cannot make any money. The staff uses the excuse that that is to make it so that people interact and sell their furs to players instead of NPC's. The fact that that doesn't happen, regardless.
People should be able to make money playing any sort of realistic profession that they feel like.

That would work I supose if furs could be used in tailoring or something of the such.

Indeed, but currently the money has been gotten far more from NPCs than from players, trade wise. There has been a few NPC buying a certain at a very high price, and then everyone would abuse this, this has been for shoes, fur and some others, characters could make awesome monye off them, more than from crafts. Sure fighting should earn some money, but as I see it, it should not be more profitable than a craft.

It might be worse, fighter won't be after wolves. Then craftsmen will be trouble

The way it should work though is that the raw good people that get the stuff should make more money then the poor--medium crafters. and the upper level crafters should be able to make more money then the raw goods people. After all the money isnt in raw goods or crafting. Its gathering and making trade deals.

Because every warrior on the island is doing the same trade, thats why. Npc's are first come first served.
