Thieves/Player killing

Recently, a thief character was scrutinised by a player (talking OCC without (()) but whats not the point). He said that i was "PKing" because I was attacking him. I was infact attacking him for his possessions, but he did not know that.
This seems to be a very easily confused matter, and I recommend it be reviewed.
Just an add on to this, from reading another post, what if your character kills for "kicks"? Or they are slightly insane, or some other freak reason?

Did you in anyform perpare the other player that your character is about to attack his/her character?
Or did you just crtl-click and wait for the result?
If your character kills for "kicks", you'd probably sooner or later find yourself kicked.

Then make it known ooc so the player isn't shocked about what is to come. Just attacking randomly without any hint why (either stated in past history or during the event)
is bad.

you first must RP the atack or anounce the guy ooc.. it's against the rules to attack like that

In real life, if someone kills for kicks, they arn;t deleted or restrained from making further characters, they are put in jail for some time, or given a fine.
If, on the other hand, someone is jsut running around killing people madly with no thought of what they are doing, that is player killing.
It's a 2 sided matter with a very thin red line.
A thiefs life runs on that line.

Really....woops.
Though i guess in real life an assassin dosen;t shout "Hey Primeminister, stay still for a sec while I shoot ya please!".
I'll review this psot tomorrow, see how it;s to be dealt.

No, a bandit/mugger runs on that thin line. They also usually don't if they give somewhat fair warning.
As well, suspicious #mes work. Even if it is just to prepare the player ooc.

No, you don't do that. You say like:
#me sneaks up to the man with near silent feet. A small dagger raised by his side, the neck of the target in the center of his eyes.

I still get very trigger happy with my little ban-stick when I see someone amassing much kills with only a thin to no reason beside "My character is insane".
Just giving you an idea what I would do.

so say i said "hand over your money or life"(original

) and they chose life, or didnt respond, i can then attack them within the rules.
or say if i were an assassin, "prepare to die" or, maybe, "say goodnight Mr. x" i could attack then.
ps:this is the longest message i ever wrote on a psp

what can a thief actually do that can only be done by thieves (and how)

heres how I rp thiefs in a very, very basic and non-detailed form
#me sneaks up on the man and tries to take some coins out of his pouch
man drops some coins on the ground for you to pick up
usualy (from what I have expierienced) depending on how clever your scheme is, and how good your rp is, determines how much you will get, or how valueable the item is.

It is fun to meet with Kl'urk, wearing heavy armor and full helmet, a thief who holds a dagger against the back of his armored neck and wishes for his bag *giggles*

To be completely honest, "Say Goodnight Mr X" is very cheesy. Since your character most likely is nowhere near as skilled as many of the characters currently ingame I would advise against such tagline-killing; especially since you heard Keikan's stance on the thin-to-no-reason kills situation.
I'm going to be level and say that if I saw a player act in the manner you describe I would assume that the player wasn't really playing Illarion for the roleplay. In other words, you need to understand that Illarion is not Tibia.
There have been a few successful and many unsuccessful "insane" characters portrayed in Illarion. The more successful ones I have seen have some background reason to them: a bad childhood, a curse or illness, whatever. The character doesn't just walk around ctrl+clicking. This will definitely cause some (justified, imho) complaints. Use a line such as the ones suggested above, or maybe describe your character as deranged-looking or appearing aggressive.
A few examples of what is generally accepted ingame:
BAD:
"Haha, Die!" *stabs*
*walks up without any roleplay and stabs*
"PREPARE 2 DIE!" *stabs*
etc.
GOOD:
#me has a deranged look in his eyes and stares greedily at your bag.
#me has a suspicously unfriendly look to him.
or some variation on looking strange/sneaking up on someone.
In summation, it is a really BAD idea to just attack someone without a valid reason. If your character truly is crazy and attacks for the lust of it, at least give the other players some warning by describing his aggressive appearance. The other rule of thumb, DO NOT kill a player in succession. This means, do not follow him to the cross and kill him again.
Anyway, that's my take on it.

if you're an insane robber, I would highly reccomend (especially with your skills) rping a fight.

Fine...take away all the fun of n00b pking...
P.S: it really is bad to attack for no reason...you should always type ((I'm killing your character)) before you do so

(Just rp it for all of our sakes...)

Its this way because we say so. Get a grip dude, its a game. There are some degrees of realism that are required and some aspects that are tossed aside. Follow the rules or you ruin the game for everyone else. Its not to be 'dealt with' at all except by informing you that if you do it again you can say goodbye to Illarion. Because you've been warned.

If only they #me looked at what some people are walking around in and carrying. I've had this happen too.
