I am really scared now!

Congratulations for making me so scared to join the game! :D After so much time of searching and searching and searching I found Illarion. Finally, a pure ROLE PLAYING game. What I was looking for, for around 2 years. I downloaded the client, I registered for my account and I was about to create my character! But...

I am stuck and affraid off doing something wrong and "destroying" others RP experience. I got too many questions, school starts in about half a month and it looks like I 'll have to wait another year to experience such a thing...

Hope never dies though, as the elders say, so here we are with my questions (fears):

1) First of all, my english are not really good. I am not bad but I am not excellent! Would that be a problem for me and you?

2) Should my character's story be Illarion based? I mean, should I include Illarion's topology stuff, like "He was born in Briarian Woods", etc or am I free not to name such things?

3) Mythology... I want an elf. Are the gods based on our race? Tanora matches my character but I read she is Lizardmen based. What should I do? Also, reading and learning the whole Illarion's story is...impossible. How should I deal with that issue?

4) I chose the name Faethon (from my country's, Greece, mythology) for my elf (the character hasn't been created yet but I read somewhere that the name here must be the same with our ingame character's one). Is that good for an elf? If not, is there a way to change it to a better one? (I like it much but I am willing to change it if it creates problems)

Such a topic would be never posted (at least by me) on a World of Warcraft board. The reasons are obvious (and well known I think). Something inside me makes me think that people here are polite and ready to help...

Thanks for your time!

First on, I think your english is fine, there are some germans playing illa too and have more troubles then you, we dont throw rocks at them ;)

Second, most players start off reading completely nothing about the history, I do think you will do fine..reading the RPG guide is the best thing to read first.

Third, your character can follow the god he wants, most lizards follow Tanora and most dwarves follows Irmorow, but your elf could prefer Irmorow too if he loves to trade, its all your choice.

Fourth, that name sounds fine ;)

Don't worry too much about that. As long as you stay in character and deal with OOC questions discreetly, you should pick up enough to get on with (and then some!) pretty rapidly.

Despite everything you hear, I have found that the Illarion playerbase dosn't bite [that hard - ed.].
2) Should my character's story be Illarion based? I mean, should I include Illarion's topology stuff, like "He was born in Briarian Woods", etc or am I free not to name such things?
Keep in mind that your character does not need to be born and raised on Gobaith. With a bit of imagination, you can work around the issue of 'where was i born lawl?1/?!'.
4) I chose the name Faethon (from my country's, Greece, mythology) for my elf (the character hasn't been created yet but I read somewhere that the name here must be the same with our ingame character's one). I found the Elvish naming page on Moonsilver to be the only resource regarding traditional elven naming conventions:
http://www.moonsilver.de/english/races/names/enamen.htm

Regardless of what it says, I doubt anyone would take exception to an elf named Faethon. I think it's a good name. :-)

You might also wish to join the #illarion IRC room on Quakenet. I'm usually there all day and I, along with most other people, are more than happy to answer some questions for you and generally be encouraging.

Yikes, I think that we may have a new hundly comming aboard.

Welcome aboard mate - I do feel a little pressure to be a perfectionist IG so don't think you're alone.

I came here, nearly without any knowledge of the english language. Its a little better now. Noone will kill you, if you make some misstakes here and there (else i would be pretty dead).
Faethon wrote:2) Should my character's story be Illarion based? I mean, should I include Illarion's topology stuff, like "He was born in Briarian Woods", etc or am I free not to name such things?
Since your Elf is as usual pretty old, like elfes used to be, its hardly possible that he was born on Gobaith.

On Moonsilver you find background informations about the rest of the world of Illarion. If you want to know more, try to contact Damien on the board. He is the backgound story stuff man.
Faethon wrote:3) Mythology... I want an elf. Are the gods based on our race? Tanora matches my character but I read she is Lizardmen based. What should I do? Also, reading and learning the whole Illarion's story is...impossible. How should I deal with that issue?
Mythology...well. Moonsilver or Damien. But you can try to get some informations ig, by asking the characters that are around. I'm sure some of them can tell you about the gods of Illarion.

I doubt that any GM would ban Faethon...i see no reason why. It sounds nice and so its good ^^

Welcome to Illarion :D

also from my side a warm welcome, Faethon :)

well, maybe your elf meets ingame an elfess named Aurora. This elfess loves to talk about the legends and gods of Illarion
