private messages

is it just me or are everyones private message sent painfully slowly? They seem to remain in the outbox for a long time before being sent. Also is there a reason for this?

They are in the outbox until the other one reads them.
If they are there, you can be sure the other has not looked at his/her private messages yet.

Hmm I'm not sure, but I thought Outbox was for mail that hasn't reached a recipient because they haven't logged in yet since, while Sentbox was for mail that reached the recipient when they logged in, regardless of whether they actually opened the mail.

No, that isnt how it works. You have to open it for it to be considered sent.
