Contract between the cult and the town

Post by Gwendolin Cad'ell »

I'm more than suprised - no disappointed - about the recent state of Trolls Bane.
The Governor is having a contract with a dark cult and allows their followers to enter the town?

Pardon me, I know this whole island is rather special with all its inhabitants and happenings, but this goes a way too far?

Do I get it right, Sir Rothman, that you have a contract with them so the cult does not war with Trolls Bane? Either that's a noble intention or pretty bad excuse. You are making business with creatures that have caused pain and death before, and now you are letting them into your town til they can strengthen and they don't need you anymore?

Just earlier a skeleton came into the shop and I unsheathed my blade, the creature told me, he is with the cult and they have a contract with town, so if I dare to attack it, I may will end up in prison.

I did not attack. Yet as the skeleton left it summoned a mummy that attacked those who were in the shop.
Is this the contract you have with them, Stephen Rothman? That their followers can walk freely Trolls Bane and summon undeads who attack and harm people? Is it that what your moral as a knight tells you?

I do not appeal to your common sense, governor, for I do not think you stupid. One does not make a contract with a dark cult accidently.

But I appeal to the citizen and the dwellers of this town now, who live in this place, who raise their children here. For I can't believe that this contract gets so simply accepted or even ignored.

Upon entering the town this day, i ventured within the Trollsbane shop, within the cult were performing a ritual to take a mans soul.

After making my presence known, and escorting them from the town i took the aid of a mage to bring this gentleman back to us.

Through the years the monastary has supported the actions of Trollsbane, even aided the land. But after witnissing these creatures.. abominations.

Action must be taken. And this news shall be passed to the Abbot, expect all actions been Trollsbane and the White Flame to cease if this contract is not extinguished.

Wow, someone finally noticed that an alliance with a completely untrustworthy temple of a dark mistress is a BAD IDEA! You humans are really improving!

If this contract is true, it will soon be void. No doubt, anyone with a lick of sense wouldn't make a contract so public. Instead, there would probably be some clause that dictactes the cult to have discreet actions.

You all trust these cult words? Even if they are true, atleast they were not smart enough to hide themselves.

I am disapointed such wise and upstanding people such as yourselves can be fooled so easily by a lich. I would have hoped you would have taken the side of caution over simply believeing whatever a Lich tells you.

There is no contract between the Temple of Bjolmur and Trolls Bane stating they may do rituals and summon undead within town or it's surrounding lands; and I do not think that this Lich belonged to the Temple, which makes it even a sadder state of affairs that you can be fooled further by a wandering Lich. Claiming they have a deal to summon undead in Trolls Bane.

I won't waste any more ink, for if I do it will only be critical and judgemental of the people who will believe a lich.

I fear I have to disappoint you even more then. For this lich IS a member of this cult. You may go and make sure of it yourself.

And even if it would not. That you even allow those member of this temple walk Trolls Bane freely is a shame and a disgrace.

But no, Stephen Rothman, don't waste any more ink. You don't want to put yourself into even more shame.

There is nothing that justifies such a thing. Not even stupidity, for I can't see what's so difficult to understand about it:

You have a treaty with a cult that follows the servants of Moshran and Moshran himself.

But why am I telling you. You know that very well. Just the citizen of the this town apparently do not. I hope your sword rusts within its sheath for the disgrace that you call yourself a knight in Malachíns name.

I advise you to be quiet. Your not a citizen of Trolls Bane right? So that means that even if there was a contract you could still attack him because you were not a citizen of Trolls Bane. Therefore even if you did attack you wouldn't be breaking the contract. Just use common sence.

Lady Gwendolin, you use the same arguement Lady Meryadeles has used. If you wish for me to use a theocratic regime then say so. But where does the line get drawn? It starts with Moshran worshippers, they are banned and killed on sight in Trolls Bane; then why not Cherga, she is the goddess of undead and ruler of Lichs after all,; then why not Ronagan, he is a god to theives and assasins; and then why not Zelphia, various worshippers of hers are trying to incite a war with Trolls Bane after all? Do you realize how quickly it can spin out of control.

Trolls Bane will never be ruled as a Theocracy, never, no matter how many allies this city loses, that is something I will never waiver in. Our city is the most diverse city and I find pride in that. A citizen can worship whomever he wishes so long as it does not cause trouble or harm to anyone else.

If you have a problem with that Lady Cad'ell, as much as it pains me to write, you can find a place somewhere else. I won't have people trying to launch genocide or a religious crusade because they do not worship the same god or goddess.

Young Rothman,

I fear you didn't see the point of my writing.

Governor,

It does not have to spin out of control, but apparently you trust yourself it.

Is it ignorance or cowardice that let you find those excuses?

No one tells you to show a knightley behavior and hunt them down. But to be such ignorant and allow them into your town, you despise every warrior, every knight and every innocent who has died in the Lich wars. Who has died in any battle in Illarion caused by followers of the three. Your cowardice is it that will cause that history repeats itself over again. Instead of learning from it.
Do there have to be deads before, before you are able to react?

I'm a follower of Zhambra and I'm not a person who would not give someone a second chance. No one is free of mistake, no one is resistent of being misled. But tell me, do you see a victim or someone you might hurt its feeling when you stand before a lich, an undead? A creature arose through dark arts? A creature bond to serve the dark lords? And what do you think are they doing? Picking flowers and being merry?

How many more excuses will you find?

I shall not stand for the undead to walk within any lands, be it Tol'Vanima or Trollsbane, they need to be returned to thier rest. In the name off Zhambra and the other gods off Illarion, to allow them to walk the land is a blasphamy which can not be ignored.

While I agree a lich should not be allowed in town, I'd advise you to take matters into your own hands. This is quite a distressing topic, so why not end it now and gather your best fighters.

Now then fight them if you will, but you will not draw blood in Trolls Bane, nor the lands which it owns. There no contract nor peace, we treat them as we treat anyother. They have yet to do anything harmful whatsoever, save for in their own ranks.

Do what you will, I have no contract nor binding agreement, nor have I ever stated I did. I simply have written repeatedly, I will not action til the Temple has done something wrong. As of yet, they have done nothing wrong. If Gwendolin's writings are true, and the temple knows how to summon and they had done so in town, I will take the appropriate measures.

There is no reason what so ever to get so angry and frustrated and launch personal attacks, Gwendolin. This is not Salkameria where a ruthless tyrant proclaims law and religion for all. This island has always been thick with diversity and never before has a group been banned or let out for no reason but their religion.

There is no law stating they cannot be here. Again, we are not run as a theocracy and I won't implement theocratic laws. There are laws against harming people and causing attacks.

My advice to both of you, is to launch legal action. If you feel the temple is causing trouble for being in town, file law suit, take them to court, and get them removed from town.

I fear i shall soon be adorning the jail where these cultists should be. As i say Governer i shall leave yourself to your pretty words, but never shall i allow the walking dead to grace this isle, nay this world.

If i encounter them within your lands, do not be dis-illsioned that i shall let them pass. The route to cowardice is to re-act and not to act. You shall never be able to please all people Sir Rothman, and in such i do not intend to try.

My statement still stands.

I find this all a trifle disturbing.
Many Varshikari spend a great deal of time within Trollsbane so reports of happenings there are of great interest to me. So far I have seen 2 crimes reported on here, and yet no response to them from the guard or knighthood.
Are crimes no longer punished within the town? Is the summoning of creatures who subsequently attack the people now accepted? Is it allowed to steal citizens souls right in the shop?
It is one thing to allow a certain freedom to all, no matter their religion or race, etc. But this appears to be going too far. A crime is still a crime. These matters need to be seen to be dealt with for the good of Trollsbanes citizens as well as visitors to the town.

I see, you both have good points for the undeads in town, but no valid reason. What would anyone gain, if the town declared war on them? Nothing, only blood and bones, as well as endangering the safety of the citizents. If they do summon mummys, or use magic or cause troubles in the town, actions will be taken. But unless it happens, it will stay like that.
I will not take part of this in no way, I will not jail any of you for attacking them, but do not ask for my help.

The cult already has committed several crimes, as I have stated out even some months before! Since then nothing happened, nobody reacted.
It started with cutting the man's head in the name of the cult within the townwalls. It went on over mysterious attacks on Trolls Bane by undeads. Now, Lady Gwendolin informs us about new crime commited - and again: The Governor is still looking for excused, hesitating to do anything for making people's life in town safer! It is a shame!

The only reason the Govenor hesitates to do anything is because he fears to loose his supposed 'peace' in town - but there already is war in town; though not an official one.

People are suffering under the cult - wake up and start to tackle the problems, instead of trying to keep your power at all cost!

The fact of the matter is, based on what has been said here, there is more than enough suspicion to hold them on possible criminal charges, but it appears no one has the crotch to do so.

Our Treasurer is being satiric.
Dravian, the skeleton who has caused trouble indeed went peacefully to jail when his superiors told him he should. He awaits trial, I would like all whom have witnessed a skeleton summoning other skeletons to meet me so you can either identify Dravian as the one in question or not.

I am pleased that the Temple understands that the law of Trolls Bane applies and are willing to follow it, and even force their members to follow it.

Stephen,

I beg you to reconsider such decisions. A temple as such can only have bad intentions, and I believe such laws have already been broken. A little foresight can make up for a lot of "misunderstandings" that people may have about the diversity of the island. A man threatening people is no different than associating with such a cult.

If any of them have commited further crimes in Trolls Bane I will deal with them to the full extent of the law. Brer, you are a man who understands law, there is no law stating you must be something and worship another if you wish to be in Trolls Bane. I would be pushing my powers further into dictatorship if I declared certain races and religions were not tolerated in Trolls Bane.

As I have said, if you follow the law of the land, you can stay.

I understand that, and I was complacent at first, but I soon began to think a bit differently. You see, I find it quite ironic that this town seems much more opposed to cultures as Albarian which they may not even understand, yet are willing to harbor religious zealots who worship a servant of deception. Clearly, there is no law to keep from bondsmen, but I am sure one could be drafted. If we strive for equality in this form, we are leaving others out, naturally. This town will never have a perfect coexistence of cultures, and this cult is a dangerous one. I understand the stressors of governor can be harrowing at times, and may cloud your reasoning or even alter your feelings. While I find your actions to not be objective, you do. Though, I will not bring up past conflicts, I just wish to state that Trollsbane is far from a melting pot and letting in this cult is quite hypocritical.

Some Thoughts on the Matter:

Strangely I have spent quite a good amount of time this week in my city of Trollsbane and not seen the workings of this cult.
Whilst I agree with the rights to association I wouldn't have a problem with banning the entire cult, if it has a doctorate or manifesto declaring it sets out to do criminal things. Then we could ban the cultists from town. But if such a proclomation does not exist we would only be assuming being in this cult makes all members criminals while it could be argued only some of the cult desire to be harmful. If a Trollsbanian commits a crime , all Trollsbanians cannot be condmened. We donot risk jailing innocents.

I urge people who have witnessed these crimes to step forward and help out Governor Rothman who is doing his best to handle these matters within the framework that Trollsbane was founded.

Governor Rothman has the support of the citizens of Trollsbane and I ask non citizens to respect our methods of solving this matter.

Some days ago there was the body of a dead orc in town. Then a man named Liles and a skeleton came and the skeleton ordered Liles to take the body for some ritual. He told him to take it somewhere quiet within town even! They said they were going to use him for something. I tried to prevent him from taking the body away, but he said he was a member of the guard and if I don't step aside they would jail me. While I kept the man from leaving the skeleton returned and another guard came. They said the orc was a member of the cult and wanted them to cremate his body, and that I had no right to prevent that and would commit a crime by using force to stop them. There were other people around but they were to cowardly to help me, and one even walked away without a word. But I don't want to be in a town ruled by one who recruits murderers and dark cultists into his guard, and whose citizens are cowards who allow that anyway.
I will stay in Vanima until Troll's Bane regains some common sense.

You aimed a bow at my chest and disallowed the final words of the orc to be carried out. Do not make my threat ill conceived. The orc was buried and cremated, that is all...
