Crisis in Greenbriar

Friends and citizens of Greenbriar,

We are at a crossroads. In the last few days, I heard many troubling things about a brewing conflict between Silverbrand and Trollsbane that could engulf the whole of Gobiath, including the Briar. I also heard from credible sources that several non-citizens have considered 'buying out' or conquering our beloved Greenbriar! Why just today, a new bridge appeared to the east of town and a Seamonster attacked us, pulling the elfess Neela to her death in the ocean! Possibly the work of some evil mage!

As many of you may know from our fireside chats, my childhood village was burned by barbarians and it's people slaughtered all because our leaders ignored the signs and refused to act. Never again!

Our new chieftain hasn't been heard from in over 4 months and can only be presumed to be dead. There are no Council members because he did not appoint them before he departed. We are leaderless!

I am declaring Martial Law. I am appointing myself 'acting' Mayor in defense of the Briar and the Hamlet of Greenbriar. This day, we must make a decision. Will we continue as we are, food for orcs, slaves to humans, victims of Dark Magic? I say No! We will stand our ground. Ground we have bled for! Ground we have worked for! Ground our ancestors are buried in! Our fertile and sacred ground!

This day, the 5th of Zhas, I declare the Hamlet of Greenbriar and the island known as the Briar, as independent! Independent of all other nations. Independent of all malevolent interests, both foreign and domestic! Independent of being pushed around, victimized and ignored.

In the coming months, you shall see several warriors patrolling the streets and areas of the island. Do not worry, they work for me. They will apprehend criminals, vanquish monsters and defend our isle until a group of soldiers can be raised ourselves. I am also in Negotiations with TrollsBane for a Defense treaty. I soon will contact friends with the Lizards, Orcs, Order of the Grey Rose, Varshikar and Vanima for similar aid.

A few peliminary steps must be taken to secure Greenbriar,

If you are a owner of any buildings in Greenbriar, send me a dove for a private meeting to verify your ownership. You will need two witnesses. Otherwise, any owners will forfeit interest in them to the Hamlet of Greenbriar and they will be 'rented' after the 25th of Zhas to raise funds for Greenbriar.

I myself am donating my entire fortune,a sizable sum, to Greenbriar's cause. My own dreams must be put on hold to save our fair isle.

If you are a citizen, or a friend of Greenbriar, send me a dove to be recorded as such. All those who help us defend our isle during these troubling times, shall recieve dual citizenship with Greenbriar, no matter their city of origin, with all the rights and priviledges it involves. Farming priviledges, discounts on wares, resource access, sleeping accomodations, and mutual respect.

More news and information will come. Let us hope that we can avert the coming conflicts, find new friends and aid our allies. In time, we shall return to an elected government, for Greenbriar.

Silverbrand has no interest in takin' tha land called Greensbriar. Do with tha land what ya wish, it is tha halflin's land. Citizens of Silverbrand even helped with money so that tha land could be build. So Silverbrand wishes Greenbriar tha best for them. If ya need help to defend ya isle against other forces who want to claim it with violence ya can speak to Silverbrand about help, aye.

Sadly, all witnesses to my owning of land don't seem to be around any more. I'll still be keeping it though.

Perhaps it is time for you to step aside, and let one who has the best interests of Greenbriar at heart, take charge.

Under your leadership, greenbriar has become stale and unused. Perhaps under Dusty, a motivated and energetic leader, Greenbriar will become a more populated and substantial place.
