Illarion.org

Listen, I know Illarion is supposed to be set in a middle-ages/dark-ages kinda thing but the game designers need to profect some kind of communications system while IG!!!!

If you have no Idea what Im talking about, take this for example

I am IG and I meet a friend and agree to help him carry a load of Iron or ore because it is too heavy for him. While we go to our destination, my connection is disrupted and im stuck with his things. A day passes. I find out he's finally IG ! I have no idea what-so-ever where he is...(By the Way ,Kevin Lightdot? we need to meet...I have your stuff...)wouldnt it be great for me to just tell him where to meet me to get his stuff back?

Please someone a little support if you know what I mean

We can OOCly set it up on the forums and you can give them to me. Its not a problem.

We have long distant communication. we called it "dove", and its an alter ego for "private messages" over the forum

I think there should be something ig, where you type to a desired char, and after 2 real life minute they will get the message, it will be rped well as a dove, flying to find the person. I mean no one checks forums for private messages while ig.

actually, that would be cool to have doves in game, but it's not needed really at all.

Retlak has the right idea, and I dont see why it isnt s good idea. I mean there isnt one time where you need to tell a person someting but you sant reach them?

Agreed. I also think accomplished mages should be able to send telepathic messages to each other that the reciever and sender can hear; to a certain range. This way if someone had a knife on their back discreetly or something, they could tell somone without the hostage taker knowing. It could also be used to plan things in secret and generally just to communicate with someone when they don't want someone else to hear. This could also be used when people are forbidden from being near each other or to break someone out of jail without the guard hearing the plan etc.

I could agree with you , but then not everyone could be able to use the feature...

Telepathic messages are acheived quite competently by using MSN.

Thats what us linked members of the temple use.

I see what you mean and thats all fine and dandy but MOST people use things like MSN to talk to Friends,Family and other things of that sort.

Also, mentioned above, there arent many people that go off of Illarion to check their PM's as if it were apart of playing Illarion the whole time

P.S. For those of you who dont ues Messengers for things metioned above I meant no offense in saying it...

Its easy to use msn or check pm's whilst still IG...no problem.

Hell..its your MSN...you can use it for whatever you want. Just ignore the family if they try talking to you when you are IG...

i use msn for my RL friends AND my Illa friends, its helpful when planning events or if something unexpected happens and you log out

OK just one more question before I leave this alone...

Say your traveling to the lighthouse. Someone IM's you while on Illarion ,but the person is playing the game in a considerably safe place (he's in trollsbane) If you were to answer his message, are you able to see Illarion? If u are amorless and have been fighting for awhile you could get killed.

Im not saying that, for those who use msn or any other messager that its just plain stupid... Im saying it would be considerably better If you could talk through Illarion rather than...around it. See what I mean? Besides I see no reason why there shouldnt be.

Ps Im not trying to Judge but it would be kinda mean if you ignored your family while there trying to talk to you, after all they could have something IMPORTANT to tell you

if you keep illarion on windowed mode you can see illarion while on msn and vice versa (unless you lowered the window)

But it would be EASIER if you didnt have to wouldnt it?

Try it, you get used to it and its not really a problem. As long as your puter will take the load it'll be fine for your brain.

No, there is a good reason not to...communication in the midevil times was difficult. many times a runner had to be sent for miles and miles with no stoping, expecally if the message was urgent. The thing about the instantmessanger and stuff, Thats ooc communication that really shouldnt be used in my opinion. I use it everyonce in a wile but the soul comunication should stay as the PM's (doves), posts, and IG serching the person out. I know its not very great but the more we push technology in this game the more it turns into real life. I for one enjoy sitting down and tuneing in to "a different world" if you will.

Example 1:
"Hey guys, there is some rich noob in the shop and I want to go kill him and steal whatever he's got on him. I don't know if he can fight, so why don't you three log in too so we can pwn him?"
"Sounds fun. We're in."
*All 4 characters are suddenly ingame, surrounding the shop. They somehow all know they are going to be attacking the same guy. They do indeed 'pwn' him and take all of his belongings.*

Example 2:
"You logging in today?"
"Yeah. My character will probably be doing some mining, like he usually is. *wink*"
"Right. Well, I'll be ingame. My char's usual spot, like you would assume."
"Alrighty."
*The characters eventually meet ingame and roleplay it up.*

There is extreme use of OOC knowledge in some MSN/AIM/whatever chats and obviously, that's fine. Until that knowledge is used ingame. Example 1 shows how you SHOULDN'T use it. Do we know what you're talking about on MSN? No (unless you look in the quote-of-the-day thread ). But it's still against the rules to use OOC knowledge IC.

It does indeed get annoying when you can't find anyone ingame. But the island of Gobiath is tiny and we can't quite explain some long-distance way of communicating other than 'sending doves' and runners. Just establish a common meeting spot with your pals, I suppose. The tavern and outside the shop are great examples of this.

Hm.. Roleplaying meeting someone ooc style...

Parfu you have a point, but this is the thing:

What your talking about is actual knowledge from the worlds history of communication. But Illarion is a world with wonders beyond this world and into our imagination (which would explain ppl like the game so much)

Now actually sending inside Doves inside Illarion would be a pretty good Idea because its a good way to explain the communication between players. Like Sess'sth said, it would be kinda hard to RP in game with info you got in RL correctly.

Now Sess'sth you have a good Idea creating a meeting place but how would your group of people know when to be there for something Important. Especially if tere not logged on MSN or other messengers

Also, Another thing: There many things annonced on the boards which players IG dont get to hear.

Say someone was holding a scavenger hunt for prize money for reasons known to him/her. Say only 5 ppl are on the boards at that time and 3 ppl are in trollsbane(there are 20 ppl IG). Not everyone gonna even have a chance to participate. THey could also come up with a wayto "broadcast" special events like that and things of that that sort
