Define Purpose - The Return of an Old Friend

"Five years at least..." the red lizard whispered to himself as he stared into the river. "Five years."
If that was true, and the creature found it quite easy to believe from what he had seen and heard, then what else had changed? Sess'sth, as he called himself, returned through the south gates and wandered the unfamiliar and disappointingly changed town. Many had died. Many had left the isle. And man were just lost.
And why was he here? Sess'sth glared at the clouds, begging for a sign, for a purpose! Everything he knew was gone, everything he had lived for was now nothing more than a faded painting of a dream. Five years... What had happened to him in those years? He couldn't say. And no one who held possible answers were in his reach. And so, ragged and weak, the lizardman wandered on. He needed a purpose. But what?
