I was fishing the other day and a thought came to my mind. What if we made a new skill of swimming. I mean Lizards can roleplay about it and stuff but imagined how much more faster transportation would be. I mean if your not a mage of course. Anyways i thought it was a good idea. Put your notes here of why it would or would not work

Here's a general rule you can probably depend on for proposals in Illarion -- If it sounds brilliant, original, and a good suggestion for the entire betterment of Illarion to you, you'd better damn well search the forums for it first .

I'm honestly quite skeptical about that. Either you're entering it completely into the wrong search box or.... well, wtf? There are 27 results for "swimming" in just the General forum alone when I search for it. Even besides that, I have been around long enough to remember that this has been brought up and discussed plenty of times .

No, that's not entirely true I believe it was decided that was bad for some reason.

So the other thread on swimming was from the old client right??? And from what I've heard, a lot of NEW things that weren't possible before are possible on the new client... Get where I'm going? So would swimming be possible now with the new client?

No, it is currently not possible with the new client. I do not believe that there are any plans for the introduction of this ability. If any plans for such an ability do come into existence, the introduction of said ability will take a long time.

I like the point that Jori made. I was thinking about the new client. We are entering a new " Phase" and i thought since we had a new client that we could discuss this because the modifications on the client.

first of all, unless you want to have a jesus effect (walking on water), new animations would need to be made. Second, a skil lsystem for swimming, which would take a while. Third....um...putting it all together nicely

A skill system.... for swimming? Because you have to be good at it at first, I see. Just like in real life, you don't know what you're doing you will die. I can see how many people would be flocking to the cross because they accidentally stepped in the water, or how many complaints there would be that it is too hard to learn and your char is always drowning so after all the hard work the DEVS would have to do for it (if it was even possible - remember we don't even have sit down graphics for chairs or beds guys) and ultimately only 4 or 5 or so chars would be able to do it because they alone had the patience to kill their char five thousand times to get good enough to stay afloat completely defeating the hard work put into it by the DEV team and all the skills they themselves worked so long and so hard to get would be greatly diminished.

That was a run-on sentence if ever I saw one, but I don't care. The initial thought wasn't a bad one, Karguk, but probably in the end it isn't possible.

Besides whether this swimming idea is good or reasonable, why it is not possible? Because of the need for new animations?

PS: What's with animations/graphics for sitting and lying characters?

Make some and submit them.

My question for the reasons was not offensive! It was just a question - I really want to know the reasons.

And with the sitting/lying animations. I think it would improve the game if your character could visibly sit or stand. It is no animation, "just" graphics (ok, there has to be 4 graphics per sex per race). But I would say it isnt a question on graphics but on server tech etc.

As with most the features with Illarion, yes there are lots of swanky ideas which would be pretty. But there are also core features which need to be worked upon.

These core features are what the Dev's shall be working on. Poor chaps do all the work in thier own time.

It is true that Bugfixing should come first, although I have a massive amount of ideas and feedback on the new client...

It would be nice if there is a place where the Devs say on what the are currently working (btw: great job!!!).

Thanks, I never looked in the postings in this sub-forum because I thought it was mainly old stuff (Nov. 2005 / "pre-0.95" .
But there are indeed some nice hints on upcoming thinks, esp. the screenshot with the smoother titles - hell yeah!

Ethier make up a story where all races were born with the instinct to swim and just start out the game with the skill. And i was thinking of once we walk over the water our avatars turning into heads up above the water. Hey it a thought

The Map Dev's use water as a barricade in many instances. So people cant get to certain locations

You want a ring of rocks arround the whole island ?

I played this really old game for playstation once. Called Shipwreckers i think Anyways when your at the end of the sides of the game it had rocks. I thinks its a nice idea Xallier
