Hmm, I've been poking about the interface while in-game now for about half an hour and I've yet to locate the "skills" tab... If there is one of those. Could be quite helpful to see what I've learnt this far and how good I am at different things.

Any help would be appriciated.

Press the magical F8 button for your list of skills.

Edit- Reading the manual will also give you such very useful tips as this and many, many others. Hint hint.
