Bank Controversy?

I thank you Necrontyr, for not making a topic on this board to discuss your ills of the system.
Since when are "medieval" chars suppose to be extremely stupid? I tried to keep the system simple, not giving it TOO many dynamics. It is a simple system. This game has a medieval atmosphere, not hindered to just certain ideas though. I think this guild has much opportunity for roleplay. I am going to try and have wages for other guild members and such too! There was such a family called the Medici's, a powerful Florentine 13th century family who was famous for their banking.
Please, discuss it here, not on the guild board. If there is a growing concern for a growing "modernistic" influence, then I will get rid of it. Any one else have problems?

Clearly, ratios were out of the question for medieval times.
No I dont think it is too advanced.

Only problem I see is how you'll let the money deposited work for you so you can earn the needed interrest to pay out to your customers and make a reasonable share of profit in the limited economics of the game as they are by now.

(I acknowledge wikipedia is a dubious source of knowledge)
It's unreasonable to say a world which has elves, magic, and all the rest is analogous to Western Europe in medieval times. Besides, circa 1202 CE, Algebra, including the Quadratic formula, had been introduced to Europe based on earlier work done in India, China, Egypt, and other countries.

Whilst I do not really like the modernized methods of the banking system (interest and the like), I do agree that this bank will bring a lot of RP opportunity into the game and would much like to see it happen. And.. you would be surprised as to what they DID know back then. I would not find percentages and financial figures so unfeasible.

Since this is so new and untested, with time I think problems will arise and we can fix them and such. With time, things will blossom.

I think that it can only help things, and I know that Cliu personally toned it down quite a bit.
The whole
IC: omg this sucks

OOC: omg this sucks
is kind of amusing also

You people make me laugh. Yes, there was banking in medieval times. The loans part especially.
Shakespeare based the Taming of the Shrew on a similar sytem. The flaw in that actual case was that the "interest" was not a monetary one.
Before running to the boards about... what is this complaint anyways... realism? Before you go running to the boards about realism, make sure you know it isn't real. Perhaps turn to the magic-casting dwarf beside you and ask him if it's real while you loose wooden plates cause you burnt sausage.

Azuros is correct.
(( execept for the part of world history being stupid. ))
Yep, we think too lowly of the Medieval Ages, and yes, they did have guns, and gunpowder. Knights were more popular back then because of their class.
And of course.. banking was possible.

More on topic....
Perhaps we should inform the masses what WAS and WAS NOT possible during the middle ages? but i dont want to do it because im too lazy...lol

No: Aspirin

Chocolate was a little later, more like Renaissance (~1500 after spanish conquest of South America).
Aspirin: yes. Try willow bark some time
Steam engines early 1800s
Electricity 1800s. There were experiments with magnetism and electricity before this, but they didn't really know what it was.

Actually, chocolate in its original state existed in mesopotamian cultures. Ermm.. 300 A.D.
It's all about the cocoa and shtuff. It didn't hit Europe till after the Spanish conquest. However, in terms of actual *time*, it was in existence in medieval times.

Sex was invented in 1912 to the chagrin of the Catholic Church. Afterwards, as a result, we had two World Wars.

Of course there's no real problem. Seriously, for anyone who dubts they had math capabilities, how did they know how far a catapult would launch? or how far a crossbow would fire? Geuss and check, thousands of times? Not likely. They most definitely had math back then and Im sure there were loans, though maybe not many official "banks". But then again, if this were to be completely authentic, we'd all be serfs serving under a lord, now wouldnt we?

Electricity wasnt even properly applies until the late 1800's. They just knew what it was.

It was Direct Current, so it was terribley hard to bring electricity over any sort of distance. With the much later inventions of Tesla came the ability to power even the most remote rural centers with enough resources.

And the famous Aegohl wasn't invented since the early 80's (I think O.o), but we are all extremely fortunate that it happened, or our lives would be so bland in modern times.

Note: Weekly increases are determined on initial deposits. To increase the interest, you must deposit atleast 100 copper more. Interest will not raise itself.
Curse you Cliu, you've denied me the power of compound interest!

I doubt they had compound interest yeyt, they probably used a static type, which is easy to calculate.

Holy fudgesickle another one of my old ideas has been yoinked from the back of my head once again! Someone must have hacked into my mind lately. Yes I swear it's true, I had drawn up plans for a banking system in Illarion 3 years ago. I even had plans to put a new artificial currency into circulation by means of targeting the low purchasing power of noobs coupled with their high demand for tools. It's true; all written in my unpublished agenda book for world domination.
