Slashing or piercing?

I can't figure out what skill is being used with certain weapons and it feels kinda stupid to ask these questions IG.
Which skill is used for daggers and which for swords? Piercing for daggers and slashing for swords, or?
Can't really figure them out since they could be used either way in RL. I suspect attleast rapier is piercing?
The main reason I'm asking is because my character has been using simple daggers 90%of time, but my slashing skill still seems to be brighter blue than piercing. Also, when I tryed using shortsword it takes less than half of the time to kill anything than with simple dagger. That seems weird, unless they both are used for slashing. But if they are, what is piercing for then?
