Poetry and Story Contest/Geschichten und Gedichtswettbewerb

With the recent opening of a public library containing a lot of different books about old stories, myths and poems, this is my humble attempt to enrich the variety of these notes even more.

Anyone, poet or storyteller, simple man or royal may join in and submit poems or stories to myself.
There are no restrictions on topic or style, variety is what counts.
Be it tales from your far home, be it stories about happenings on the island, or poems about the simple things in life, everything will be collected.

To encourage people even more to join, I will gift the best 6 stories or poems submitted (to keep it fair, only one price may be claimed by one person, the lesser ranks will be picked and gifted accordingly if more stories of one person might reach the higher ranks) with wooden goods of top-quality of the writers choice.

Especially I would like to mention my knowledge of crafting (not using though) of magical wands, to especially encourage the well educated magicians of our island to give it a try.

Furthermore I'd seek some people helping me to judge the quality of the poems, preferably educated elves that know how to treat poems and stories.

Interrested people may write below this parchment or send me a dove.

Please do NOT publish your work here, for I'm planning on holding an evening of poem and story reading and announcement of the contest winners in near future.

----------------------

While I enjoy writing, I think I will not partake in that aspect of this endavour. However, Faladron, I am more than willing to help you in the judging of entries.
I will continue to check this board for an answer, or I may be reached by dove.

Kamik had spent the whole day searching for something among his things. He had a small idea of what that "something" could be, although he didn't realized by that time. He would remember, later, by checking the annoucements on the wall of Troll's Bane.

His diaries.

He had long destroyed them. However, sometimes he still caught himself writing, or at least trying to write, using his right hand, since the left one would never be able to hold a pen again. Truth be said, there was much more of a writer in Kamik then a warrior, much more of a writer in himself than an adventurer in his father.
With some effort, Kamik replies to the most recent announcement:

I wish to take a part in this event. I never wrote a poem, so I will be taking the Tale contest.

Kamik Windslasher

He takes a deep breath before posting it to the wall and somehow that made him remember of his dead son. During that week, everything made his mind return to that sad day. Perhaps, writing could and would do good to him.
He would, for some hours, be able to forget.

Once all the entries are out in the open, I wish to ask if I am allowed to translate them to elven for the Vaniman library.
Also, I can say I am very pleased with this attempt, as it iwll greatly enrich Gobaith-wide culture. I will ofcourse write a story too, if not for the prize, then for the pleasure.

May Elara grant you insight and wisdom for this particular venture,

Rest assured that, after collecting the stories and poems I will forehand them to every library that wants to have them, if the writers agree with that of course.

Regarding the prices:

I have decided to split this up into two categories:

Old Language Poetry and Stories
and
New Language Poetry and Stories

the reason being that the translation of a poem from one to the other language is nearly impossible without destroying the writing as a whole.

Thus the 3 best stories and poems in each language will be awarded with the following:

Two wooden items, shields, staves, bows or wands for example of top-quality for every winner.

--------------------

A brief reminder to all writers:

You'll have plenty of time left, but try to finish your submissions until.. ((saturday 28th I never got the whole Illarion calendar thingie))
so then the jury and myself can start to judge the entries.
Expect the winners to be announced some time soon after that.

-----------------

That's better?

(crossed out)

I haven't been able to finish my story, but I will try to come to the reading, if I can. I sent my poem to you by dove, in case I can't be there after all.

So then, when are we going to see or hear some of these works of literature and the winning submissions?

After reading, rereading I eventually gave up trying to decide which poem/story is the best. Instead all participants may send me a dove and ask me to carve a wooden object for them as a prize and remembrance.
People who submitted something are:

Heidern
Rhiannon
Errian Abêth
Fisk Federkiel
Fainne Devereaux
Ortac
Tantris Steingrab
Drathe Blue
Mellerant Sharid
Alandas Mehrina
and a couple of poems written in the old language who appear to be from the same anonymous writer.

I thank all writers for their work and dedication and am now in need of a professional storyteller, actor or speechman who can recitate some of the poems in a fashionable way.

Furthermore I will send copies of all entries to the library of Vanima, the magic academy and of course the library of Trollsbane.
