Now that we have locks could we have... [Suggestions]

A few suggestions since we now have a lock-door system.
1) Lockpicks [graphics use the sickle handle

] in order to open doors, and a skill 'lockpicking' for opening doors which are locked. The lockpick should be quite hard to make, and it will look suspicious when you ask for one... The skill should allow the user to try once every Real Hour on a door, [to prevent powergaming and entering by trying 999 times] (It will be too suspicous to try again, you should wait a while before trying again); also I would make anyone picking get a forced #me "is picking the lock", so you'll get caught

Skill should also be dependant on Dex, Perception and Intellegence
2) Ability to copy keys...or at least an NPC, you USE the key with him, and he'll give you 2...
3) Ability to make keys never decompose
4) Ability to make a room where the things never decompose, so you can lock the room and make a storage room for guilds.
Thank you

If the door is out of the way and nobody is around, why would your character care about looking suspicious?

Well, i think keys are not decomposing... that would be pretty useless if you have a door and all keys decomposed... the GMs wouldnt be happy about that i guess...

Otherwise people will just powergame and/or spend their whole time playing around with this same door. And if its locked its locked for a reason.

yeah but being unable to try the lockpick for a real hour is unrealistic, totally.just make that the player get "unable to concentrate' instead after a while, and i think the GMs already planned that look in the project section.

I like the lock picking idea, but don't rush the gm's.
instead of forcing it, which is near impossible, do something like when you splash water on fire, where the messege comes out automaticaly, and it could say things like this:
level 1: **** picks the lock very badly and makes lots of noise
level 2: **** picks the lock being very stilll and quite and makes only one small sound
level 3: **** picks the lock very quickly and quietly not making a sound at all.
(I know there are no such things as levels, just and example)

It's not the GMs that would implement it, it's the developers. And I do think they are doing more than their fair share of work right now

But this graphic looks crappy. And this no player will ever get this item

exactly what I mean, a simple lock pick shouldn't be the rarest item in illarion, it should be able to be made by a smith

It isn't a tool for players.

There is a reason the lockpick is a rare item right now, and it isn't just because the item hasn't been implemented for smiths or is few in number. It's a GM item. Let's just say this: If half of the character population had a pair of lockpicks in their pockets, Trollsbane might look like a block of Swiss cheese by now.

Yes, but it's just a graphic. Couldn't the graphic be recycled, or the GM graphic changed to something else?
Just curious, not that I necesarily think lockpicks are a great idea.

Why dont we all give each other medals instead?

I think a recycle will get a bit confusing... anyway.. enough about the graphic.. let them worry about it...
What about the whole concept?
