Hello. Im new to the game and im still trying to figure all this out. I understand im supposed to hold down shift and click on the item i want to use, and what i want to use it with. But i have some problems.

I wanted to use a sword to fight this little pig/badger looking thing. I wasnt sure what i had to use my sword with but i thought I'd give some combinations a go. I held down shift, clicked on my sword and then on my character. Little pictures of what i was clicking on appeared in the top right hand corner of the screen, but when i released the shift button they disappeared and nothing happened. So i tried again, this time clicking on the pig/badger thing instead of my character. Again, nothing happened. I decided to try using a bow and arrow. I did every combination you could think of, But nothing happened. Im really stumped... i dont know how to use ANYTHING, not just weapons. I had a cape, i tried to use it, nothing happened. I'd really appreciate some help.

If you want attack other characters or monsters, hold CTRL and click at your victim.

Your are right about using items, you can use e.g. an apple tree to gather apples.

Yes, i know about holding CTRL, but once i do that im fighting with my bare hands. Im not sure how to equip a sword or other weapon to acctually fight with.

Click on your weapon of choice. Drag it to the spot where your hand is on anatomically-weird body on the right side of the screen.

You are very welcome. Also, your cape problem will also be solved by moving ot to the correct space on the body. As with most things.
