Wards

Jeremy stood before the north wall of the north eastern house of Varshikar. He held a small brush and several bottles of ink were nearby. He stood and studied the parchment Athian had given to him. He committed the symbol to memory.
Carefully he began to copy the symbol onto the wall, frequently checking back to the parchment. As he painted he whispered an incantation.
"As the circle closes, so the ward closes. Ward protects. Evil will not pass."
As he finished the first symbol it glowed briefly then faded. Just a faint trace could be seen on the wall.
He moved around to the west wall, nodding to Nadir. The orc watched him with interest as he began painting again. He drew almost entirely from memory this time, only checking back to the parchment a few times. His concentration deepened and he visualised the symbol perfectly in his mind. The incantation helped him focus. Quickly the second symbol was complete. As it glowed and faded Nadir muttered and made a warding sign.
Jeremy moved to the door and began painting again. As he painted his awareness broadened. He could feel the mana flow around him. A slight change in the pattern began as he painted. As the third symbol was completed he felt a slight tug of the mana flow. A small spiral was drawn into the symbol as it flared. As the mana flow returned to normal he could feel the dormant power now held within the ward. He nodded to himself and moved on to the next wall.
