Roleplay Factions/Proposal for RP Tutoring

I've noticed lately that all roleplay seems to be divided into factions. For example, there are certain 'newbies' that are ignored/shunned from a lot of roleplay, and the younger players (14 and under) seem to be roleplaying more with each other than with anyone else. Aside from that, many of the 'vets' prefer roleplay with each other than with the new players.
Now, I am *not* saying that all of the veteran players are like that, or that the ones that are do it all the time (They RP with me, after all, and I'm pretty newbish still

). I am just saying, it is kind of a pattern, that has been increasing as we've been adding more new players.
I think the problem is, some of the new and younger players don't RP quite the way that the rest of us 'prefer'. Now, of course, roleplay is objective and there is no right or wrong way. However, I think that a lot of the very new players just don't understand what 'roleplay' actually means. Making up a medievil name and holding a sword while you still type "lol

" is not enough, and some of the new players I have noticed seem to shift between IC and OOC speech with no warning. Often this happens when other palyers are in the middle of an intense or dramatic scene and they are simply told IC to go away, or are ignored.
Now, there is a point to this post. A lot of the older players, or the newer ones that have more of a grasp on RP try to help the new players, but it is often in the middle of other things going on, and you simply can't help everyone at once, especially since some of the time they might feel insulted to have four players telling them they are 'doing it wrong'. My proposal (whee, a proposal!) is this:
I think if a new player wants help with mastering the basics of Illarion-style RP, they should post in this thread, and one other player will help them out through gameplay, MSN, or forum posts. Think of an RP reason for the two to hang around together for awhile and help them. I think if each person that was having trouble had a single 'roleplay tutor' so to speak, and the 'tutor' was only helping them and maybe a couple more players, they would have more individual attention and more time to learn. A lot of the newbies really like the game and I'd hate to see them excluded because the players they ask for help don't have the time, or because they don't know who to ask.
So, if you wish to be a 'roleplay tutor' or need some tips from another player, post here to volunteer or to ask for help. If you agree to help someone please post it so that 5 people won't help one player while another player gets no help.
Props go to PO Thalodos for this idea, by the way. This is pretty much what he did with me when Arynne was my first character and it's how I learned
And I shall of course volunteer to tutor, hmm, two people. That's what I have time for

Seems I am one of those older players who have prejudices, so I will take one too.
And, roleplay is subjective, not objective. I think.

P.S. A wonderfull idea, to say the least. I really really encourage and enjoy this initiative. Hope the newbies will catch on.

Yes its "subjective" not "objective", objective would mean there is only 1 true way to RP

A while ago I had a similar yet less pratical idea which i put Japheth, any way Jappy had a far better idea. A RP mentor/advice/discussion chat in irc. Perhaps we could connect the two, I am more than happy to help facilitate this if others think it may prove beneficial. Might be a good time/space to network rp arrangements get feedback of a positive nature and help new players make new contacts in the community. That was something that helped me a lot makeing ooc contact with amazeing rpers like Sian,Jen,Galim and others.
Just a thought

I would like it if someone could give me a little help. I understand the basics and would like to talk to someone about a few things to get my character better involved in the community.
I am in the eastern timezone of America and I am usually online in the evenings. I would say gmt 2100-0600 depending on work schedule.
Any help or simple tips whether ig or in forum posts-PM would be greatly appreciated.

You are the smartess person and best writer in the entire game. Your chracter Rhiannon brings massive attention to herself I have never seen before. If you consider yourself a newbie then I should be banned for not being up to par STILL.

See, this is where the game's learning part drops off for me. I simply cant get any better then where I am at now, which means - sucky for life. It apears no matter how "good" I get at one point, I'm going to fall back on my ass the next day.

I originally learned how to "roleplay" simply by reading alot of fantasy fiction novels and GMing for pen&paper RPG groups for years.
Maybe that's some advice to some.

I started off with RPing i guess...must have been IRC originally, a vampire channel on undernet. It wasn't anything like Illarion RP. It wasn't strict, no real rules, you could basically do waht you wanted.
Then, I did e-federations, online wrestling federations where the player took on a wrestler, and had to post on a forum in the aspect of a promo ad for the next fight, and the best RPers between the match-ups would win.
Then, I moved to LARPs. Mind Eye Theatre's Vampire the Masquerade. It had a lot of rules, but it was still not totally strict on rules and such. We'd all go OOC at times during the game because we all became friends, or needed rules calls, etc..
Then I joined friends for half table top, half LARP versions of VtM, D&D and the d20 game Wheel of Time, based on the books. These were even looser ruled, because it was at most 4 or 5 of us, and we were all good friends, so it didn't matter much if we wasted some time, etc...
Then, I did a full fledged LARP, Underworld, where we got to use boffer weapons.
Boffer weapons are weapons made from PVC piping covered in open or close cell foam, and then duct taped to give the proper material colours for realism. It was more strict, as OOC during game was very frowned upon.
When I went to University, I started up a game of Wheel of Time with some of the friends I had made. They were mainly new to roleplaying, so it was difficult for me, used to games where strictness applied, and everyone generally already knew the rules because they had played for so long.
All in all, one thing that I think would help new players, and current players, is if OOC wasn't so frowned upon, if not used excessively. Sometimes someone just wants to comment on whats happened, ask a question about something, etc...With how OOC is tried to be non-existent in Illarion (my opinion on what I see) it may make some new players afraid of joining, because they'll have to always be IC and fear that if they drop out for any reason, they'll be looked down upon.
I think that if there was an option in the account sign-up to ask for an amount of experience RPing, that if new players fill it out, and enter an amount under say, a couple years or so, they then have the option to check a box asking for a RP helper, and the GM's can match them up with someone from this thread that has 'signed up'. Although I realize some new players will probably enter a fake number so they don't have to get help, or say yes just to bug someone from the game or sumthing...
But, thats my $0.02 CDN

Wonderfull idea! I am curious wether this is possible, and how many newbies will actually use it, but wonderfull in essence indeed.
