Pinned to the pillar

A note is pinned to the Pillar of Drahken in a childish handwriting

Drakhen,

I want Aokan's soul back. You took it from him when he was desperate and alone and was unable to make the correct choice. He might not think so badly on it now, but I know that he is only your tool and you'll simply discard him when done. I want him back. He is my brother, whether or not he still thinks so, and I will not see you take him away from me like this. I will win his soul back if I must, name your terms, but I will not give up or back down until his soul is returned.

Rhiannon slips out of town quietly and as far as she knows, unseen, several times a day to see if the note has been removed from the pillar...

Kamik has two things on his mind as he walks to the west gate. The first: the plans for his wedding, which would happen soon. He was happy only by seeing Devrah so happy. But the second thing doesn't make him that glad.

Rhiannon.

She was really determined in helping Aokan and now, Kamik knew that accepting to teach her swordsmanship was a mistake. He thought he could make her forget that subject or maybe convince her that swords weren't made for her. But he thought wrong. The more she learned, the more she wanted to be taught.
He passes through the west gate and notices the pillar. By it's side, he sees an apple tree. "This wasn't here last time I checked...", he thinks. Was it Rhiannon too? He wonders as he approaches. The note is still there. He sighs and removes it from the pillar. He allows it to be carried by the wind until it lands on Adron's Lake.
Kamik watches as the piece of paper slowly sinks and disappears from his sight...

"I hope those skelletons didn't put an eye on this..."

A new paper is affixed to the pillar in a handwriting that does not seem to match any on the walls.

Little Child,

I will be sure my master receives your message.

To Drakhen:

In your heart, the sky is gray
And children's cries are far and wide,
To a heartless god you pray,
And kneel before a soul that's died.

Close your eyes, think of a time
When you yourself were small like me,
You sold your soul while in its prime,
But you still have a chance to set it free.

Take your heart, from icy claws
You won't live forever but you will again live,
Leave your cursed half-life because,
Once we know you had so much more to give.

Give back lives, you stole away
Let Mephistus and Aokan smile again,
Their lives were not your to steal this day,
And they are loved by Mairead and Rhiannon.

Dravish you and i will have a reconing...
Such foolish words, he knew it like spitting at the wind. Storming off from the pillar he had no heart to look at the gathered crowd. Had he just sacrificed his daughter, lacking the courage to strike the lich assuredly his death may have changed Rhiannon's mind.
He walked on in slow brooding silence, saving Aokan was one thing he actually didnt care one way or other man had always been lacking. Walking into Drahkens realm how ever...
That place held no respect for love or care, lies deciet and pain and inocence of youth such a tempting target. Dravish maintained enough humanity he didnt kill at whim, yet his master Drahken like the bone lord himself held no such scrupals.
The debt would be high for todays failure, drahken would find some use for kids no doubt...
He had lost Rhi to and he ached, he had been unable to teach her what trust meant. While he would lay his life down in an instant for her should pick her own path in her own service. As she had done running away, as she had done in the cell with Aokan as she had done with Dravish. Her care was conditional I care i trust if it suites me.
He recalled her word, i will never run away again, they sounded bitter now.
Anither, Aokan she would hate them for making her choose and then choose them at each turn.
Yet there was no blame just children and he had failed them, weakness again he had betrayed himself.

He thought he tastes rage and cowardice on his tongue a metalic salty mix, till he realised he had bittne his lip bloody. He opened his mouth to scream but no sound came. A deep chill spreads slowly through his chest a feral smile creept along his lips.
Love, trust, mercy...where are you now, in this silent of scream

Buckeling slowly a ache that had eaten him since this began that he knew of dravish and had done nothing, all of this on his shoulders. He knelt and wept silently into his hands, for stephen, arynne a lost daughter and a pain he couldnt name...
Never again....never again, mercy

Rhiannon walks hesitantly through the desert sand...No one is in sight, save Mairead, small and shaking at her side. She squeezes Mairead's hand tightly, both girls' hands shaking and sweating, clammy and cold.

"Mairead... Maybe this was not a good idea..."

"Rhi, we are together. We can.. we will.. save them."

A hollow, cold laughter fills the air around them and the two girls wince. Rhiannon goes white, feels faint.

It was funny... for weeks Rhiannon's eyes had been hounded by the vision of Aokan, speaking to her.. "You cannot follow me now, Rhiannon. It is over."

But now...

Now, the only thing she could see ahead of her eyes was the pleading look of Pendar Fayed, her adopted father, pleading with his eyes for her to return just before she stepped into this realm..

Pendar, the one person who had unconditionally been there for her. The one person that had chased her through mountain and forest for weeks to bring her home safe. He who had forgiven her for the most unforgiveable thing, of killing his beloved raven. Pendar, whose warm embrace had once made her regain hope in herself.

'What have I done?' she whispers, tears falling from her eyes.

by Mairead
After a while in this realm without any happening, Mairead is able to get her fear under control mostly.
Sitting in the sand, she strokes over Rhiannons face gently and wipes her tears away.
In a comforting voice Mairead begins to speak...

"Yesterday I met Fedaykin, Rhiannon. Fedaykin is a priest of Oldra, the godess of life. We talked a lot and also passed by the pillar at the lake. I told him everything I knew about it and also told him that I tried to plant a tree there. Then he gave me an apple which he plucked before, though he wasn't even hungry. He said, I should try it again and that the meeting between him and me was not accidently. And that we were standing at this pillar...*she takes a deep breath*

We are here, Rhiannon, because we are trying to save our friends. We followed our heart and thinking about that, I will not regret that I came here with you. Whatever will happen.
Pendar compared something like that yesterday, with a moth who flies into the fire with good intention and then gets burned for nothing. But I say, when you are too afraid to fly at any light at all, you will always stay in the darkness. What is worse? To get burned because you follow your heart or to stay in the darkness all alone and never be happy
?"

Mairead leans her head closer to hers, the confidence from her voice vanishes a little as she continues whispering.

"Maybe... maybe we have chosen wrong. But Rhiannon, I'm sure we will get through this. Together we are strong okay?
People will worry a lot about us... and I'm very sorry for that. But there is a chance to get our friends back... wouldn't they do the same? I think they would. ... uhm. Next time we... err.. just should plan better about our doing... hu? ... I could cry thinking about how my Mom and Athian and all the other will worry
."

She gazes around carefully. How where they supposed to get out there again? Mairead's heart was teared between faith and fear. She knew the gods were watching, then what would draw more attention than two innocent souls of children, who were so brave to enter a dark realm to save their friends...

Rhiannon sits on the sands with Mairead, her breath at last calming, her shaking subsiding when hours go by without sight of the lich or anyone else. In one way, she desperately wanted to see Aokan and Mephistus, but in another, she felt more secure when it was just her and Mairead.

"M..Mairead?" Rhiannon ventures at legnth.

"Aye, Rhiannon?"

"What if no one ever comes? What if we just stay here forever and everyone forgets about us?"

"I don't think that will happen."

"Mm." Rhiannon shifts nervously a few times, then the weight on her back reminds her of her bag that is there. Slowly, she slips it off her shoulders and draws her diary out.

"To calm us down," she says softly and hands Mairead a page. She leans over the book with a quill, her dark hair shining in the unearthly sunlight, and begins to write...

It was not easy for Mairead to keep her courage sustain. The creatures around them, seemed to watch over them and Mairead was afraid. Demons.
It was like one of her many, many nightmares she had. But why didn't she wake up at the point she was afraid most? Waking up in this moment was all she wished.

With a trembling voice she whispers to the other girl, who is so close to her.

"Rhiannon... you know... I have nightmares very very often. The only difference is, that I wake up as soon as the sun rises and then I go to my mom and snuggle to her ... and she is comforting me... Then I know that everything is alright."

"I'm miss my mother...", Rhiannon replies, hugging Mairead more.

"My mom always sings a song for me... when I'm sad or afraid..."

Rhiannon says, she would have her harp with her, and after Mairead asking if they shall play it, she takes it from her bag.
Mairead hums a melody the softly and repeats it a few times, so that Rhiannon can play along with her, practising the tune.
Some moments later Mairead raises her childlike, bright voice... gathering all her courage to not let her voice tremble.

  • * When the cold of winter comes *
    * Starless night will cover day *
    * In the veiling of the sun *
    * We will walk in bitter rain *

    ~ But in dreeeams...~
    ~ I still hear your name ~
    ~ And in dreeeams...~
    ~We will meet again ~

    * When the seas and mountains fall *
    * And we come to end of days *
    * In the dark I hear a call *
    * Calling me there *
    * I will go there *
    * And back again. *

The tune of the harp and childs voice are carried through the plane of Drakhens realm, relieving the childrens heart from fear and distress, but for a moment. Calming their innocent minds.

After recieving word from Farel about the abduction of Mairead, headed to the town of trolls bane intent on seeing the guard himself, it seemed every time this man was around someone he cared for ended up in mortal danger, He walked swiftly, unusally swiftly between the trees of the eastern wood, lost in thought as to what to do presently. He had avoided allying himself with Drakhen the time they had met along with Pendar and two others. Not because he feared the creature or it's minions, he was bound by oath to the Goddess to never take up with malificent powers.
Instead that worthless wretch Dravish had traded his soul for power, and had been terrorizing the isle since. This he should have sought to deal with as well, but the pressing matters of his family kept him from any action aside from watching the events transpire. Now that had changed, This latest Abduction had pulled him directly into the conflict he'd been forced to avoid.
He found himself at the gates of Trollsbane more quickly then he'd expected, shuffling by the various people walking the streets without so much as a word he made his way to the dark pillar by the lake of Adron. he smirked as his eyes found themselves upon an apple tree, he moved to it, casually sliding his hand along the bark, feeling out the gredges of spirit that lingered in it's essence, only yo be surprised that the tree had not yet been tainted by the evil that stood not but inches behind it.

"that Mairead...what trouble, nothing ever changes it seems."He spoke quietly to himself as he turned back and leans upon the tree. Athian reached into his bag drawing up a quill and parchment, and began to write. after a long moment he finished his letter looked it over once and frowned. the things he did for family.
Athian slide a small silver coin from his pocket and pressed it between his thumb and forefinger. he barely noticed the metal warming beneath the pressure, but no sooner did he feel the soft metal go slack did he take the letter and place it to the tree laying the silverto the bark and paper to hold the note in place. he turned on his heel and stalked back into town to wait for a 'sign' leaving the note to flutter lightly in the wind

Dravish:

It seems i'll never be done with you, so often i think you gone and you slither up from a hole in the earth. i'll not waste your time with compliments on your Etiquette. i await a chance to speak with you concerning Mairead and how i might precure her release. please don't keep me waiting, it would be a shame for me to have to find you.

Humming a beautiful melody Shandariel walked good-humoured into the shop of Eliza, first greeting her she turns to the other peoples, smiling softly and greeting them too.
But the peoples looks at her with sad eyes and greeted her half-hearted back. Shandariel pondered and asked them what happened that make them all so sad, when one of them tells her about Mairead and Rhiannon. How they fell into the undead arms of Dravish.

Shandariels jadegreen, catlike eyes widen and she slowly shakes her head in disbelief, saying that this must be a joke, that it can't be true. But it was no joke. Slowly she slumps down, holding her chest with her hurting heart and weeping bitter tears. Someone beside her catched her trembling body just in time but she didn't notice, she just thought about the poor girls who mean so much for her.

With tears in her eyes she looks up and she starts to pray from the bottom of her heart for the poor children, prays to the gods for their blessing. Prays and promise everything for the safety of Mairead and Rhiannon and finally, weakened by the horrible news and her intensive prayer, she faints sobbing.

Rhiannon is unable to sleep all the night, kept away by the cold of the night and the demons roaring in the darkness... The demons whose movements she can slightly make out even in the pitch blackness due to the small amount of elven blood she holds. She clutches to the small girl all night, trying to comfort her, even though she is scared herself. She hugs her tight, Mairead's head pressed into Rhiannon's shoulder

"We will make it," she whispers, and then turns her head up to the sky

"Mommy, Daddy... Caden... Anither...I miss you. I love you.." she mouths to the stars

"I only hope you can somehow know how much."

by Mairead
Keeping the song in their hearts Rhiannon and Mairead are clutched together, trying to comfort each other. Often both grow very silent, just feeling each others near which relieves their fear. It’s not hard to guess where their thoughts mostly are…with their family.

I wish I could snuggle with my parents and my baby brother”, Rhiannon whispers to Mairead and breaks the heavy silence around them. “And you can come too, Mairead … when we get back…

Mairead looks into the other girls eyes and her own thoughts wander to her family and to the people she loves so dearly. A little smile crosses her face.
You have a baby brother too?”, she asks.

Rhiannon nods “He is a baby. His name is Caden.

I often spend my time with Athian… he is like a daddy for me and to say so I have some siblings too. A boy called Adrian and since a few days a little sister called Fiora.”

Rhiannon smiles and seeing this smile Mairead feels a little more comfortable and warm.

Athian said, I could visit the baby sometimes. Maybe I can go with you there, when we get back.”

Of course!”, Mairead nearly bursts out; enchanted by the thought. While Rhiannon tells Mairead that she likes Athian a lot, she imagines how she and Rhiannon would play with Adrian and Fiora. She starts to giggle,… forgetting for a moment where they are.

Adrian is just like him. He knows magic… so it can happen that he will just burn something.”

Rhiannon joins her giggle as she imagines it.

Caden has one dark brown eye and one green eye and he is the best snuggler in the world. I think he gets this from my mommy.”

Both girls are giggling and smiling, despite everything around them. Just enjoying their thoughts, memories and feelings for their family.

How remarkable. Maybe he will not be such an icky boy like all the other. And Adrian neither.”, Mairead answers giggling.

Boys are icky. I hope Caden doesn’t get icky. I bet he won’t. Dimhyd is not icky and Kamik isn’t icky either.”

I do like Farel” – “He smells like wine a lot” , both girls chuckles nearly happily.

Have you ever … drink beer? ”, Mairead asks suddenly and Rhiannons eyes go wide. “ I had cider. It made me dizzy and sick.”

Mairead giggles. “I don’t know cider, but Alkuurg the orc let me taste his beer once… I just took one sip because it was so disgusting!
Then why do grown ups drink it?”
Mairead shivers of the thought of beer and replies then: “I have no clue. Maybe they find it funny getting dizzy and sick…
Maybe. Grown ups are weird.”

Mairead nods in agreement, then she slowly looks up … As she sees the demon, it is like a slap in her face. At one go all the fears crawl back into the girls innocent heart and let it feel heavy in her chest. Leaving the only wish to finally go home…
She bursts out in tears and starts shaking and also Rhiannon experience the same as she sees her friend weeping. With tears falling down Rhiannons cheek she hugs the other girl close to herself…
The weeping and sobbing noises of the two break the silence of the plane.
