Combat System Suggestion

Post by Bloodhearte »

Can the concussive weapons, namely the warhammer, be boosted up...majorly...for damage dealing power?

Took my character 40+ hits to kill a pig with a warhammer, but took him about 3 or 4 to fall to a double axe.

it seems off balance but have you ever been whacked by a war hammer by someone who knows how to use it, lets say it does serious damage. for instance the skeletions in the graveyard, the war axe weidling ones, do almost no damage compared to the ones with the war hammers. i'm guessing you might as more skill with slashing weapons over concussion, though i admit that most creatures in illarion have no weakness to concussion, aside from skeletions

It shouldn't take much skill to hurt somebody pretty bad with a heavy chunk of metal.

Hell, I killed a pig in only a few hits with a dagger in each hand.

IMO, the skill set has too much damage influence. I think it should be lessened, greatly.

apprently small cuts beat mass head trama. i can agree it is a bit odd, from my point of veiw war hammers are stronger then most weapons outside of the double axe of doom and now the two handed sword of injustice.

maybe pig are crazy strong but they just don't hit back

and i think skill to stats to skill to weapon ratios should be worked on, i mean it's still annoying when super strong maxed constitution characters with a third of your skill and a double axe beat the crap out of everything alive

Havent used a war hammer for a while but last time i did it packed a whallop. Definately your skills and a double axe has always been some what over powered, something we may see remedied soon.

The two handed sword is not that powerful, i mean Ath your staff does around the same damage to me as skilled characters were doing with a bi-hander. Last i fought you anyway.

Basically i feel in illarion staffs should do slightly less damage as they tend to be a mages choice, they also maintain there ability to seriously dent plate armor any way.
A war hammer slightly more damage than a bi-handed sword, as it is by far slower.
As far as PVP combat goes i have noticed constitution makes a huge difference, something we need to be aware when we speak of weapon balance. I play numerouse character with varying constitution and something that knocks a heap of my mage, bearly dents pends.
Its a tricky one to balance...not made any easier by as soon as one weapon emerges strongest suddenly every one takes to useing it "cough" double axe.

as to staff weapons i think there okay power wise, what i think is that we could use more concussion weapons, when you look at slahing weapons you have literallly about 20 more choices then with concussion weapons if not more, so this means that when it comes to slashing weapons your see more varience in the power of the different blades. there's a huge range of weapons between weakest and strongest, giving people alot more choice. with staffs you don't have that much choice, all the other staffs outside of the two battle staffs hardly do anything that could be considered worthwhile damage. so we it seems like power wise we have

smithing hammer-regular staff (flails included)and maces-Morning star-the two battle staff-warhammer

thats seems about the order now slashing weapons

dagggers
swords
bi handed swords
axes
bi handed axes

and take into account that unlike cuncussion weapons each catagory i listed has at least two weapons, though the average for most aside from bi handers is i think five-ten. where as concussion weapons, the only group with multiples i have on that list would be regular staffs. my order might not be perfect as to power in the weapon with all the different staffs but point still stands that you can blances weapon strenght alot more when you have fifty weapons in a catagory as compared to about twelve

In any case, there is a whole new combat system reliant on scripts in the works on the test server currently.
