Rhiannon's form lies prone on the forest floor, and she is unaware first of the falcon overhead, and then of the panicked voice shouting her name. She lies at the base of a pine tree, inches from death. A gaping wound, made from sword and mace, bleeds heavily at her stomach, and several ribs and an arm are broken. Her small body is covered in blood and bruises once more, and her breathing is weak and labored.

The shouts increase. "Rhiannon! Rhiannon?!"...but the girl does not hear.

At last, Aokan finds her, his face pale, and he wraps the girl's wound and carries her to a bed in Greenbriar. Together, he and Mirluin give the girl a strong healing potion. The bleeding slows to a stop and her breathing becomes a little easier, but the girl still will not wake up...

All that day, Rhiannon's form lies prone, motionless. At last, heading into evening on the next day, Rhiannon begins to stir slightly every once in awhile. On the third day, she wakes up; her eyes are glazed, on the edge of delirium, and her face is so pale it looks grey. Her tiny body, that had only just begun to heal, is now riddled with a new coating of angry bruises, and a long, deep cut runs from ear to chin in on the left side of her small, pale face. The deep wound on her stomach has been wrapped and bandaged by Mirluin and Aokan, and the bleeding slowed to a stop by Mirluin's potion; if not for that, she would most certainly not even be clinging by the thread she now holds onto life by.

When Rhiannon wakes, she speaks in a low, hoarse whisper. Her words are weak, slow. It seems an effort even to breathe. Her glassy eyes fix on Aokan, and she speaks to him...

"A...kan..? 'M'I... 'live?"
"Yes, I believe you are."
"..Hurts..."
"Where does it hurt?"

Rhiannon does not answer, but drifts back into unconciousness. All throughout that day and the next, Rhiannon slips between sleeping and waking, occasionally trying to speak...

"A..kan? .." her half-closed, gray eyes fill with tears of fearful anticipation, "..how...bad is it?"
Aokan sighs and looks down at the girl honestly.
"Pretty bad," he admits gently.

She looks as though she wants to respond, but drifts out of conciousness again. All through her unconcious spells, the fingers of her left, unbroken arm, will twitch a little, as though she is trying to grasp something.

Another stirring, another glint from beneath the half-closed eyelids.

"..Lost it.."
"Lost what, Rhiannon?"
"Lost...ring..."
"What ring?" and he looks at her left hand, where an indentation of the skin surrounsd the base of hre thumb, as though a ring was indeed worn there recently.
"Ring...means...I am their daughter.."
"Don't worry, I am sure they can buy a new one."
"Where...everyone? Anither...Caitlin...where...everyone?"
"I don't know, Rhiannon."
"Promised.. here. Me..Where..everyone?" she opens her eyes a little more, as if to look around for other people in the room.
"I am the only one that is here right now, Rhiannon"
"A..kan?"
"Yes?"
"Stay..me. Promise?"
"Of course."

With that, Rhiannon drifts once more into unconciousness...

Thalgul returns to his spot, hoping to see two starving children awaiting food.
But they were gone...
"Not again.. I've had ENOUGH of this non-sence! The next child shall not be a failure. The next time will see me REAL angry"
He turns into a drunken frenzy, bashing rocks in half with a few hits from his Morning Stars.
"The next one shall see what i can do."
