That alot of the newer players names usually end in an "a" not all mind you just alot. You are all using the same name generator AHHH. I always thought alot of the names were very similar and it might be because alot of them end in "a" or have alot of "a"'s in them

While this is a silly topic that would be more at home in off-topic, the mindless chit-chat isn't welcome here.

Points to Estralis and his shiney padlock.

Maybe we turn this topic into something valuable?

 Name generators: Which one do you use? What are their special benefits? Links?

 The letter "a" in names: Origin? Appearance in germanic / celtic / slavic / romanic languages? What about artificial languages like Sindarin / Quenya?

I don't use a name generator.
My present char has no "a" 's in his name.
My very first char's name ended in "n".
Wasn't sure if I wanted to play the game so made Illarion into Ellaron (Illarion, Ellarion, Ellaron), Tah dah!
Second char ended in "n", third in "m".
All of a sudden I feel unworthy.

First char ended with r.
Second character ended with s (his first name with r)
Third character ended with l
Fourth character ended with ...*ponders*..k
Fifth with an a
Sixth with a l
Seventh with an s..

And I might have missed some and the likes..I had a quite a few back in the days *gg*. Anyhow, I have never used a namegenerator, I always design them myself to the liking. I do seem to have a certain love for specific sequences. i am trying to lay off that, and create more interesting names. It is quite a journey though.

I really don't like using name generators. Sometimes they're nice if you need a random name to explain a situation. Besides that, I believe if you're not original enough yet to create your own name from scratch..... you might want to reconsider the hobby of roleplay ;D .

Hey, Delakaniam would end with an "a", except....that pesky M.

*reconsiders his hobby of roleplay*

My character's name ends with e, his first name also ends with e.

I would need hours to invent a reasonable name.
Simon McCall,
Glen Barthold.

Not good names, are they?

All my character's names are original... though occaisionally I give my imagination a jump-start using a language translator, usually elven. (If you have doubts as to the originality of my char names... just ask Maggie what her *full* name is. lol ;))

And a lot of female character-names end with 'a' because in most languges, 'a' signifies a feminine word/name.

Damn straight, Fooser. *G*.

As Nirantae said, "a" at the end is often used in numerous languages to change a name to a feminine form. So it goes.

I don't use name generators. They just don't fit to me.
You may know the phrase: "Nomen est omen".
I'm choosing the names for my character how they feels right. A villain needs a villainous name. Imagine Darlok would have named his char Lupo or Otto. *g*

Darlok has a certain ring to it.

Gwynnether von Glanwen was the name of my first character. The name Gwynnether I 'created' myself as a version of Gwenhwyvar/Guinevere (the name of the wife of king arthur).. because my real name - Jennifer - has its origin there. So to say, yes, I named my first char after myself.
'Glanwen' I found on the Sindari website.

Then I had Benvy Baradwan. Also a name with a nice ring to it, because of the two B's. There I started to go for names which actually exists. Mostly I llook up for irish and celtic names. I love them.
Benvy was a young girl, orphan and just learned to tailor.

Caitlin Fergus - the thief (and later medico o.O)

Deirdre Rogan - the farmer/baker (and later necromancer O.o)

Maeve Rogan/Brawdcor/Gravstyn/Corulas ... (what surename does she have anyway yet...) - the evil child.

Gwynether I thought your name came from the cat in Dark Elf Trilogy, and you just changed it to suit

Oh and I use name generators to get the last names of my characters. I make the first ones myself. And as many people have pointed out Erart sounds kind of like rat and thats the word I started out with

please help me

By the way, Sammy. You've already posted this at least three times just here in the General forum.

1. Do NOT do this. People will already see it when you see it the first time. To say honestly, you'll just end up pissing some people off, because it's close to spamming, if not already is.

2. These questions are more appropriate in the "Newbie" forum. Please post your beginning questions there. People are also more willing to help if you ask your questions there instead of repeating inquiries several times (uselessly) across multiple threads.
