I seem to have a problem understanding how the skill gain of fighting works.. i have heard many rumours and different versions...

Question : If 2 newbies fight against each other.. will they both gain skill? I heard a rumour that you only gain skill if your opponent has more than you do...

I think initialy you can raise skill from 2 new chars, but it will reach a peak where you can no longer gain more skill off each other unless one or the other has more skill.

I am almost sure you can rise your attack/defense skill a slight bit above the defense/attack skill of your partner eventually being able to progress by PVP training alone, but only slowly.

Those who I speak to often could atest I have spent a lot of time "studying" Illarions combat system and although I could propably give you X points for leveling up combat. One method remains tried and favoured by me above all else.
Play the character and let the expierence accumilate sooner or later you will find you can kill most of the monsters. Were as you may or may not be gaining fast dueling a character same skill as you. Your are both certainly gaining a roleplay bond, Your health is going down so skill must be going up some what.
Really I dont personally like all this talk of powergameing one bit, but i can tell you one thing there are certain players who are able to dedicate so many hours and so much effort to skilling up. That raceing or trying to "compete" is a waste of my time personally...
Just play and the skill will come...best advice i could offer about combat

I have never had the chance for a PVP skill gain. I can say Skills can be raised in pure PVM circumstances. Im not certain if the skill cap works on the amount of blows recieved/given or on skill gained. If it is through skill gained then the method you use shall speak for itself.

The point is....

Last time i practiced archery with a Player... i used 50 arrows.. and the skill didn't even appear

During the "Nightmare" saga , i shot arrows at the demon... maybe i hit him twice... the skill appeared..

Did it increase faster the second time? being a demon and all that

Maybe your skill did already rais a little bit with the player and the demon was only the final step?

Could be... ... but i immagine that 30 hits with a player would at least give my skill the first colour...

<<Could a gm clarify the skill increase thing please>>

The more powerful the enemy, the more points you get.

They start very dark and get brighter until they are blue like your language skills are.

Slightly newbie question:
If you die enough time, do you stop understanding your languages?

If you got massive hits over a long time with a warhammer on your head .... your brainfunctions may ..... (think yourself, what may happen).

But I don't know, if skill reduce while dying is implemented.

It is, I have seen it. One of my weapon skill I had just advanced in, I died and it went back to the previous level. It was a very small amount, I could have easily regained it the same day without trying much.

You can also forget your languages, unless the person I saw was randomly adding starts to be annoying.

There is a way to check your current skill level, but i will not post it here, if i dont get approval from an GM to let me post it.
