i am re-downloadin direct X 9.0 just incase. anyway, when i start up the game i see a hand pointing a finger (the mouse) and then a flash and the whole moniter goes black. i press alt+f4 to close the screen and then it comes up with *illarion has performed an illegal operation and will close* or something like that? :?

To shut down Illarion press "ESC". This should work regardless of your Problem. Illarion does come up with "illegal operation" errors when closing down from time to time. It's a known issue, there won't be done anything about this in the current client.

Did you properly unzip the archive? I know this is a stupid question, but people make stupid mistakes sometimes.

it says it unzips automatically or is not the normal .zip format or something like that. i have unzipped everything on my computer (used winzip wizard to searcg computer and none were found

 My bad. I meant: Enter your character's name to log in, and use the password of your account (in reference to your question above) :

Is the main issue persisting? What graphics card are you using, and did you check the company's homepage for driver updates?

Is that an ATI graphics card? Here's a page to ATI's customer support:

https://support.ati.com/ics/support/def ... olderID=27

Try checking out if you have the latest drivers of your graphics card, if not, then try installing the latest one.

it seems to work fine while playing games like "runescape" and "age of empires". they seem to look like they would use better graphics than that needed to play illarion (not trying to say the graphics are bad or anything)
i think i found the problem! i think the resolution is changed when the game is booted up! because my cheap moniter does not support any resolution apart from 848x480 (weird) the screen just goes very very dark! (found this out because i set brightness to full and then played game! i could just see outlines
am i right? hello is anyone there? i am buying a new moniter tomorow so i will be on then! i have an old moniter which is good enough but whenver i plug it into this computer it just flickers and turns on and off! it worked on my other computer which is now also broken (i have bad luck lol)____________________________________________________________

Could you please not post multiple times? There is that nifty "edit" function. ;)

Regardless of the 3D graphics or 2D graphics, the driver does sometimes have its hands in Illarion not running properly. But if this issue is merely related to your monitor, nevermind. :)

848x480? That is the weirdest resolution I've ever heard of!

I honestly don't know if you're right, this whole thing with the monitor sounds pretty odd to me. I guess I can't say there's anything wrong with trying out a different monitor, it might actually work. In fact, Illarion does indeed run with a 1024x768 resolution, so a proper monitor might fix the issue.

Cheers,
Eric

I have this same problem also. I enter the username/pass and it goes into a black screen with a mouse hand.
Everything is updated. I even updated the drivers for my graphic controllers on my mother board.

I rolled back drivers, then updated them, I followed the instructions in other topics, but nothing is working.

One thing I have to add is, I found out that the newest drivers for this card are nogood for my computer. After installing them, they keep crashing the system. Nvidia claims there is not a problem, but my system tells me otherwise. SoI'm using a version that is only 1 step down from this newest version.

To your last remark, I do the same. For some reason, with their latest driver installed, Windows refuses to recognise my harddisk. So I took a driver that was one step lower too. n_n

@Cherish: I just checked the server statistics given on the frontpage and compared them to the time you posted here. It appears to me that you tried logging in when the gameserver was down. My guess is that it should work fine for you. The server is up again now. The easiest way to tell it is down is to look at the statistics. If there is a constant number of players online over the course of many hours away, those stats are frozen and the server is most definitely down.
