Sometimes I think I'm the only person who's joined in the last month or two that actually read the manual and FAQ first. I am getting really annoyed with people who speak OOC all the time without (()) and people using modern language and 7334-5p33k in-game.
There should be some questions on the application that prove you have read the manual, like "Give 3 examples of non-acceptable names" or "What should you do if you wish to speak OOC?"
What do you guys think? Am I just being too neurotic about it?

Sometimes the best way to engage these people and defeat their leet speak, is to simply engage them in roleplay. Roleplay your heart out with them. Use immensely descriptive #me's.
Give them flowers, Erart! Just entirely absorb them in the world of Illarion until they can't help but roleplay. The account system is flawed, I'll admit and most of the time there is no real way that we can determine whether or not a potential player can even roleplay.
Simply adding more questions, that can easily be answered and are ultimately pointless, will just mean that the potential players will invest less time in the application.
Out of twenty applications or so that I processed today, about ten of these started out quite well but eventually degenerated into: "And then the mage2djdjskdjskjkdsjdk."
These are of course, immediately binned. However, for those roleplayers that are, average or borderline in your view, there is only one thing you can do: Engage them in your roleplay! Involve them in any way you can!

Martin said that? Doesnt sound like him
And I do give em flowers, but sometimes I want to give em a grenade although that isnt implemented YET.
Its on my list of things to get implemented.
Oh and if you want I could design some questions not easily answered from the manual
And if potentials wont take the time to answer the question well you know what, they wouldnt take the time to rp

I'm afraid I'll have to argue with you on that last point. When I arrived in Illarion, some three years ago, I didn't roleplay particularly well, or at all.
I'm 100% sure that I irritated people with my antics (I probably still do.) However, if certain people hadn't showed me how to roleplay, I wouldn't have developed as a roleplayer, I wouldn't have learned how to carry a roleplay situation and so forth. Without the help of you and others, these people will remain as (what I like to call) Primordial Japheth.
Anyway, send the questions to me. Some ideas might not hurt.

People keep talking about newbies using l337 and stuff. I've seen a lot of strange behavior in peoples early days, but speaking l337 is not one of them, unless Im missing something, it isn't a huge problem, is it?

*shrugs*
Fooser, to anewer your question, it could have been all the same person. I don't remember their ID and I never knew who it was. Maybe it's just one moron I keep running into...

I think the account application should refer people to moonsilver and the rules and such.
I know it sounds silly, but when i joined there was so much to browse on the forums and so much anticipation I didnt think to read moon silver or learn about the gods till some weeks and

months later.
Perhaps a short paragraph pimping these pages as good reading on awaiting accounts or the character creator screen would not be a bad idea.
On the character creator for example, Illarion is unlike any game you have played before. Familiarizing yourself with the world you are entering will only prepare you better for the comeing adventure “link moonsilver". Stuck creating your character?
Learn about character concept and attributes here.
Bam link straight to a page that says...
Thinks about your characters history, what has he she been doing? By reading this page "link to races on moonsilver" you can discover about Illarions races and how they live.
A good characters attributes "link to the attr explination" would be dependant on what he has done and the progression of his life, perhaps he has been devoted to a certain God"link".
Perhaps some small answer can be found in exposure before attempted policing.
Brian
P.s I doubt I am qualified but I dont like suggesting work and not offering if you want me to take a shot at such a page done properly. I will volunteer at least make an effort for some one to do right.

PPS: Moonsilver, on the main site, if someone checks under the links these days, is listed under "fan sites", in fact as the final entry. Just thought that might be a bit contradictory to the general consensus that Moonsilver is "
the" source for Illarion's background. I mean, sure, there's a link on the front page now, but let's face it, how many of the potential new players are going to click on Screenshots first before they read through the introductory text on the front page?
