Whenever I try using a bow I dont use any arrows at all, I can run around a scorpion, bandit for 3 minutes and not use up any arrows at all. At first I thought it was kinda like the Library research where you need skill to even open the menu for the books. But now that I have a little bit of skill in distance weapons, no arrows are used. This has been going on since I first got a bow.
