Death?

Somewhere I read something that made me get the idea that if a player attacks another player and defeats them, the defeated one only gets knocked out, dropping items but not actually dying. Is this really true?

Not currently, rather. If they do have one, it is not turned "on".

Bummer

I think it would be great. Then you wouldnt actually die if you slipped up in a friendly duel or something.

If I remember correctly, there was a "Knock out" system implemented some months ago, but it was extrodinarily buggy, so it was removed. I haven't heard this brought up lately, so I'm not sure about its status.

Well i saw a knock out system it was implemetieded the day the orc storm happend but that was years ago, as serpardum still played, the bug was that mnonster got to clouds and still could attack and that there was no other grafik for a knocked out char, than a cloud.

A "friendly duel" ?
Intressting discription of an action where you hit each other hard, with mostly sharp objects, causing pain and injuries to your opponent.
Excuse me, but I rather dont want to be considered as a "friend" of you.
On topic, its rather obvious that sooner or later characters can be knocked out and will again drop items upon thier defeat.
But how and when is written on another page.

yeah, that was making me abit angry..i mean the dropping items part. ive killed several people who have #me'd what they have on them, then when i kill them or what not they dont drop anything! i think its just my luck or something as people keep saying that other people are dropping stuff when they die

I am not entirely sure about this point.
So far my characters died twice so far, since the wipe, both times from monster encounters.
At both times my characters did not lose a single item, thats why I am under the impression that item drops are currently disabled.
I may be wrong at this.

It depends on your skills.
You just drop items at a certain skill amount.
You can give a newbie an inventory full of things, as long as he has 0 skills or really less skills he won't drop anything when he dies.
That was implemented in the old client to avoid that newbies are losing their only few things (hammer, shovel) when they get killed.

And that exactly is why the mummy tomb was such a pain in the <censored> to me personally.
You could go down, could not move back up, ergo try one last futile attempt at attacking one of the mummies, and all the fiends would slap you to death so quickly in concert that your skills shoot up and you get an automatic "you're too tired to learn more yadda yadda" and you could kiss your items good bye.
Just a thought, toodles.

I got knocked down by a skeleton..
I dropped a bag, A double axe, boots, and chain mail. I have often saved peoples equipment for them as well. So as Gwyn says people are dropping gear just dont kill newbs
