finding herbs

Maybe we can discuss about that?
I think that finding herbs freely now is great, but two thoughts came up to my mind:
Why does my druid-char have perception 17?
and
Why are there sickles existing ingame?
Could we please change that herbs are just pickable with sickles?

I hope not.
I don't normally go with such high attribute ratings on any characters of mine (I have an exception, one who is incredibly strong but rather dim-witted). And personally I've never been too interested in playing those type of characters in Illarion (specifically druids or mages), because the things associated to their roles were too annoying of tasks for my taste (like clicking something 1000 times).
I'm glad to read now it has gotten easier (and perhaps more rp-friendly, e.g., picking a flower without being a druid).

Style (I hope).

1.) I haven't said that we need perception to pick the herbs, but at least we need to use a sickle for it.
2.) My proposal would be, that we could make certain places where chars with the better perception can find more herbs (maybe with the old system), than the others.
Simply because you SEE more herbs when you have a better perception.

I think that's partly implemented already. MY char with 5 perception once in a whiel sees a mushroom lying around, my dwarf sees a bunch of random things, and my thief with high perception cant take 2 steps without seeing SOEMTHING.

are you sure that wasn't just per chance?

You explored the whole map already?
Are you absolutely sure this isn't in place already? I feel somewhat sure in my assumption though that there is some intended (even if yet unimplimented) function for the sickles to be in game.

Well, maybe a GM could comment here?

AFAIR there is currently NO use for sickles. And the herbal system is far from finished; we just did it this way because we felt the need to give druids something to do until we implement a better system.
My idea would be that lower perceptions will cause people to find less herbs (but not none), whereas the higher your perception is, the more herbs you will find.
Plus, there will be something to do for the sickles as well, of course.
Again, it needs to be scripted and we have a shortage on scripters.

One of my chars, through using a sickle with tiles has gained the herb lore skill. He didn't get anything from it....but the skill did pop up in the craft skills section.
